Chances as an Environmental Engineering major

Hi,
I was supposed to go to school this fall but have since decided it was impractical because of the amount of student loans I’d have to take out. Since it’s too late to apply for Spring 2016 semester, I have to take a year off and apply for Fall 2016. I’m really nervous that I won’t be able to get into any of the schools near me, which is a big factor because it’s so much cheaper to not have to pay for room and board, because I’m applying for Environmental Engineering and I know it’s very competitive. I have an ok GPA and a good SAT score for the schools I’m applying to (CSULB and SDSU are my main schools, SDSU being my top choice). I’m just really worried that I won’t be accepted at all because I’m applying to the colleges of engineering. I’m wondering if a 3.3 unweighted GPA and 1940 SAT are too low for the schools’ respective colleges of engineering. I did graduate high school with an I.B. Diploma after taking all AP and IB classes but I really don’t know if that is going to do anything for me in terms of getting into schools. I was also thinking about biomedical engineering but I know that’s probably around the same regarding ease of getting accepted. I am just really scared that I won’t be accepted to any schools if I apply for engineering and I know it’s super hard to transfer into a college of engineering so I’m basically stuck between not getting in and not being able to transfer in. Is there anything I can do to ease my worries or better my chances? Thanks so much!!
