Chances at a few schools for international relations

im only a junior now, just really depressed lately over a lot of Bs and midterms and so on and im worrying about college. so here we go:

White Male from good NJ public school
GPA: 3.68 uw 4.05 w

breakdown is something like this:
freshman 3.4 uw 3.55 w
sophomore 3.9 uw 4.2 w (APUS - 4)
junior 3.67 uw 4.1 w (AP Euro and AP Physics B)...problem this year is a lot of B+s. i dont think theyre bad but a B+ only equates to a 3.3 so arg :</p>

those numbers arent exact but its something very similar to that. my school doesnt offer a whole lot of APs. my senior year will have 5 though...will look something like this:
AP Chem
AP English
AP Calc AB
AP Stat
AP Art History
Spanish 5
Honors economics

btw our weighting system is standard 4.0 scale + .5 honors + 1 for AP

SATs: waiting for first results from Jan 28! got a 205 on PSAT. for analysis im prediction a 720 Math, 740 CR, 700 writing. might as well assume these.
SAT II: US 740
will take world history and physics after this year

ECs: Teachers assistant at synagogue judaica/hebrew school
Will be certified teacher after this year!
Honor and Service Society
International Affairs Club
Philosophy Club
Model UN
Bowling league captain (should i even put captain? its just a league. i handle like money and score reporting)
varsity volleyball
Peer Tutoring
Volunteer at library, Multiple Sclerosis Assosiation of America, and town's historical society
Im applying for a congressional pageship this summer. If I don't get that, I wil intern in a state senator's office.

ya nothign really special, not any great leadership =( biggest committment is to my synagogue...recs prolly wont be anything special, dont really know any teachers other than in class. essays should be great because i like to write and my mom is a writer and can help me express myself well.

i know no SAT scores yet, etc., but any idea of chances here for International Relations major? Schools:

Brown (top choice...will be applying ED)
columbia
georgetown
tufts
Johns Hopkins University
UChicago
American
GWU (dont really wanna go there but safety maybe?)

obviously these are mostly top schools so theyre prolly reaches but do i have a chance at any?

Brown - Reach
Columbia - Big Reach
Gtown - Reach
Tufts - Match
JHU - High Match
UChicago - High Match
American - Big Safety
GWU - Big Safety

thanks =) anyone else?

also how does one define reach, high match, etc? like if i applied to all these schools can i still have a hope even with a reach

Brown - reach
Columbia - huge reach
Gtown - reach
Tufts - high match
JHU - reach
UChicago - high match
American - match
GWU - low match

i'd say a safety is about a 60-80% of getting in, match is about 30-50%, and reach about 10-30%. for those "high" and "low" matches, etc, just estimate between those numbers

GW is notorious for rejecting overqualified people

dont use it as a safety

cool thanks =)

and thanks dragon...i dont think i want to go there anyway, the campus is too blended in to the city. im just having a hard time looking for safeties with my heart already set on a few schools

Unweighted grades may be a problem at reach schools if you are not in the first decile of classmates. Even if your school does not rank, adcoms have a pretty good idea where you stand.

Tufts ha s agreat IR program and prefers students demonstrating interest. Applying ED I or II can help.

I think Brown and Georgetown will be quite difficult to gain acceptance.
If your M + V SAT exceed the averages, it is certainly worth applying. Keep in mind the competition is intense.

im in the top decile

anyone else?
