Chances at Admission?

Hi, I am a Senior and I have looked heavily into BC. Neither of my parents went to college (blue collar) and I am Caucasian. I go to a public school also, and I want to major in political science or pre-law.

SAT I:
Overall-1990
Math-610 (yeah, I know…going to attempt and raise it)
Verbal-710
Writing-670

SAT II:
Literature-540 (have no clue what happened there…going to retake it)
U.S. History-630 (also retaking it-a tad disappointing)
Math II-610

AP History: 3

GPA-3.8-3.9 (unsure as of now)
Class Rank (6/353)

Classes: All Honors and AP all 4 years
Senior year-
AP Psychology
AP Spanish
AP Calculus
AP English
H Physics

EC:
Literary Club-Secretary
Interact Club (like Rotary)-Secretary
Debate Team (disbanded last year-little $$$, no supervisor)
Baseball-all 4 years

Misc.:
National Youth Leadership Conference in D.C.
Boys State

*Yeah, my EC are pretty weak.

Any and all feedback and suggestions are welcome. I also have no problem with vitriolic and hard-line answers (be honest).

two words: Wait List.

that or OTE (which is ironically, even harder to get in!)

Is that it? Can you elaborate at all?

Reddune wasn't it you who got something like a 1200 on the sat and got in regular decision? You prove the point that Boston College's admissions can be pretty random. So instead of telling kids with stats far superior to yours that they are going to be waitlisted, try to encouraging them. Look at how your condescending and elitist attitude posts of late compare with your posts last march/april. Your at B.C. so great, now try to get other good kids to come to your school instead of pushing them away.

I take criticism well, but when there are just vague generalities I am lost. One needs to be specific in their reasoning.

I think you have a defninite shot, really. Your english-ish scores are very high, well above the range. Make the essays stellar! O and check out my stats if ya want, thanks!

BC is one of the most random schools out there. I have completely no idea whether or not I'm getting in. One of my really good friends is there as a freshman now, let me tell you that he didn't put much energy into his application. But then again I know people that did put a lot of energy and are amazing ec and stat-wise who got in. And people just as amazing who didn't.

I know it's just a rumor that they take a pile and take the best 2 and move those on to the next round and do that until they get their incoming class. Now I know it's just a rumor, but their acceptances do kinda reflect that. You don't have to be nervous over BC b/c there's nothing you can really do.

Good luck! BC's awsome.

wooh wespoint, are you happen to be in shawhouse (curiosity, because you remind me of my housemate). Anyway My SAT 1 score is a 1260 (oh the shame!) my by SAT2 scored were 780,740,720 and My AP scores were all five, except cal. And I did Enough notable extracuricular activities to gain admission. So please don't tell me people stats are better than mine when you dont know half the picture (Merlin I got nothing against you). BC is not the most competitive top-tier school out there, and what i'm telling you is base on my own opinion. You have a good GPA, and mediocre SAT, and weak EC. The EC is probably too late to be bother with, just push up the SAT and keep up the GPA and you be fine.

p.s.
This is to Westpoint2010 (aka, Ballroom man)
"MAINE HAS A DESERT" sorry to break it to you.
:)

So, wait: I have a mediocre SAT? I thought a 1990 was decent, and actually the median for BC (accepted students; enrolled is 1290).

Blech...whatever.

When I said mediocre I mean you fall within in the 25-75% of the SAT score. Anyone in that range is medicocre, below that is unlikely, above it is good fit. So what is the confusion?

furthermore, the way BC is admitting last year and how much the applicant pool has went up dramatically over the past 5 years, I'm not going to say anybody is a shoe in unless they score well over the 75%.

Interesting.

From everything else I've seen, I have gathered that being in the 25-75% range represents a match.

It's true that 25%-75% represent a match within the SAT1 range of the school, but if the colleges were all about the SAT1 I wouldn't get admit into half the schools I did. However, in your case, and again this is purely opinion talking, your probably need a higher SAT average than the average student to be sure of admission. I'll be honest and say that your race (caucasian) does not serve in your favor, GPA is such a relative factor and vary from highschool to highschool thus ranking is different to determine the outcome (Believe me when I say that I've met Vale Student who probably wouldn't get in the top 30 of my highschool), and your EC is not all that thrilling. I think your strongest selling point is your SAT, this is not the case for all students, but I think it is for you. If I was force to bet whether you will be admit or reject I would probably bet that you will be admit, but I do with reserve. I think if you don't improve your SAT1 and SAT2 you will be more likely to be put on waitlist, but still have a good shot at being admit. I dont think you will be outright reject. Update us on your progress, good luck.
