Chances at BC, BU, and a few others?

Hi, I was wondering how to label the following colleges (safety, match, reach)?:

Boston College
Boston University
New York University
Johns Hopkins University
Cornell University
RIT
Stony Brook University

Background:

Female
Asian-Indian

NY
From an above average high school…we’re not ranked or anything, but good enough
I’d like financial aid, but it’s not my biggest concern.

Grades:

GPA: not sure what on a 4.0 scale, but about 96 un-weighted, 99 weighted

SAT [will re-take in October]: CR: 700, M: 740, W: 740, T: 2180

No SAT IIs yet and waiting on grades from ACT. Will take SAT II in Chemistry, Math II, and most likely US History.

Rank: 6/300 students (top 2%)

APs Taken With Scores: AP World (5), US History (5), Chemistry (5), Language and Composition (5)

APs Being taken during Senior Year: AP Calculus, Biology, Literature and Composition, Government, Spanish, Psychology

I've taken every honors course at my school.

Awards: very minor school ones, I got a medal and scholarship from RIT. Does that help my chances there?

ECs:

Officer of Foreign Language Honor Society (one position)

Volunteer:

200+ hours at hospital
Volunteer reader for younger children at library reading program
Church activities—altar serving, church youth, volunteer at various church programs/events

I know there’s other factors like the recommendation letters and essay, but with these statistics, but how would you label these colleges? I know that JHU and Cornell are definitely reaches, but how about the other ones? If you don't know any of the colleges, please feel free to leave it out. I'm applying RD to all of these, except I may EA whatever isn't single-choice. Thanks!

bump10char

I think you have a very good chance based on your statistics.
I think BC is near the level of JHU and Cornell which I guess makes it a reach for you…
Stony Brook is definitely a safety for you. I don’t know much about RIT…
I think BU and NYU are on your level. They are both great schools!
Have you visited any?

Nope, I’m applying and then visiting colleges during the upcoming holiday/winter breaks I have.

Thanks for your chance!

You have a great shot at all the schools listed. JHU and Cornell will be much more difficult but I would say you still have a competitive chance. Good luck!! Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1214789-chance-me-top-schools-duke-georgetown-uva-will-chance-back.html

RIT is a safety for you, definitely.

Might look at Holy Cross very good school with nice campus 1 hour from Boston.

Oh, I’ll definitely look into Holy Cross then. I’m really interested in the Boston area or just sticking with NYC. Thanks for the chances guys, and I’ll definitely chance back!

bump10char…if there’s no more replies, I’ll let the tread go.

Boston College - low match
Boston University - safety
New York University - match
Johns Hopkins University - low reach
Cornell University - low reach
RIT - safety
Stony Brook University - safety

My opinion is that you should aim a bit higher - more schools in the low reach/reach zone.

How much of a reach do you think Johns Hopkins U and Northwestern would be?

bump10char anyone?

these stats are amazing. u rlly put alot of work into highschool, and it shows. nice job. ur selling urself short. nyu is a safety. cornell is target. johns hopkins is target. ur easily into all the schools u listed, maybe cornelll isn’t 100$ but very good shot. u should aim even higher. northwestern is a target too.

Thanks for your chance!

DONT do that. holy cross is in the middle of a dump and your stats are way too good to go there

^^referring to the comment about looking at holy cross

Holy Cross is ranked 29th in this year’s US News rankings, in top 15of CNBC’s Payscale salary study(higher than bc), and Forbes ranked in the top 25 of all schools this year. HC is also need-blind for admissions and has a fantastic alumni network.

I’ll take all of that into account when considering Holy Cross. Is it known for a strong science program? I’m interested in pre-med courses and laboratory research (aspiring for medical school).

God, stay away from Holy Cross. It’s a good school, but you won’t be able to get into Boston.

Boston College - Match
Boston University - Safety
New York University - Match
Johns Hopkins University - Low Reach
Cornell University - Low Reach
RIT - Safety
Stony Brook University - Safety

In the Boston area:

Match:
Wellesley College
Tufts
Brandeis

How hard is it to get into BC? A decent number of people get accepted from my school (5 or 6) but only one or none end up going there…probably because of the tuition.

And thanks for your chances guys, this really helps me determine what my safeties, matches, and reaches are.
