would those chances put in the first post be lower for engineering at BU and NU (Ive seen NEU but they call themselves NU)?

uhh i dont think they are the same thing. B/c NEU is Northeastern University while NU is Northwestern University. I'm not too sure on the prestige of the engineering programs at the schools but my best guess is that they are probably almost the same as any other program. If not only differing by a few percent.

Sorry for the late response, especially since apps are due for UC's soon

assuming your in-state

UC Riverside - In
UC Irvine - In
UC Santa Cruz - In
Santa Clara U. - In
UC Berkeley - Rejection on grounds of grades ( your gpa is great dont get me wrong, its just people here are a lil... yea.. lol) and EC (higher UC's put alot more weight on them) actually (scores are subpar too) im not trying to discourage you, unfortunately... CAL is like that lol...
Cal Poly Pomona- In

Since you want to go into engineering, maybe Cal Poly SLO too? it is the better of the cal polys in terms of both prestige and academics...

No offense, but I dont think BU is a lock for you. Also, I have to say, going to college in Boston wasn't as special as it seemed.

"going to college in Boston wasn't as special as it seemed."

can you elaborate?

If you aren't a California resident, UCI would be hard for you to get into, given your 3.5 UW. If you could calculate your UC gpa and repost it here, that would help

Oh, not just UCI but all of the UC's would lessen his chance of getting in, if he was out of state...

and yes your UC gpa ( grade point average received from credits earned in grades 10 through 11, including summer sessions, and not including P.E/classes that aren't A-G) would help alot...

Apps for UC's go out pretty soon, i hope Alectricty will c this b4 then... are there any other schools your considering?

woah, sorry for that last sentence, forgot i wasn't on aim and got all instant message colloquial on you haha...

Before getting to Boston, all I heard about was how great Boston was, how great and lucky it is to go to college in Boston, and saw all these articles with Boston as the best college town/city in the U.S. Even though my time there was short, it wasn't any better than anywhere else, and I've found that I've enjoyed being in Philly much more.

I'm a huge Sox fan, but Boston really isn't that great. The people are rude jerks. The T is inconsistent. It feels like it's missing something.

I like it there. The architecture is nice, and there's tons of places to go if you have a lot of time to get there, but I dont think it's some super-mecca above everywhere else.

TUOwls2011, what college did you attend in boston, and where did you transfer to?

I went to BU, and transferred to Temple.

interesting, i actually put some thought into Temple... what kinda backed me off, was the fact that it was a commuter campus... does that ever make you feel lonely? or segregated?

We're no longer a commuter school, actually.

Other well regarded colleges you should evaluate in the greater Boston metropolitan area include Boston College, Tufts, Holy Cross, Wheaton, and Stonehill.
