I have a 3.2 (weighted) GPA, 2100 / 2400 SAT's (taking them again this weekend to see if I can do better) currently in AP Lit, AP Gov, AP Stats, AP Bio, AP BC Calc, AP Computer Science, editor of the yearbook and literary magazine of my hs, own a web design company, do DH ski and cycling very competitively, I have taken several summer courses at Harvard, 300 hours of community service, and I have some excellent teacher recommendations. My father has 3 degrees from MIT and several from colleges in England. What are my chances at a school like BU? I have perfect grades across the board in science and math, just my past years (sopho and fresh) have been less then notable in the humanities (history, English, foreign language). I would like to carry on the tradition in my family of going to MIT but I know that isnt a possibility. I was thinking of applying to the either school of general studies at BU (supposed to be easier to get into) or the arts and sciences department. I want to major in biochem and eventually be a cardiothoracic surgeon. Any advice, ect. would be greatly appreciated.

i am also in the same boat. worked very hard, yet scores do not show it.

Anyone else?

Your scores are fine, but your GPA is definitely on the low side for Boston U. I wouldn't rule BU out, but I'd consider it reachy so make sure you have some solid matches/safeties. In short, BU is worth a shot, but have a backup plan.
Good luck - hope you prove me wrong!

I agree with Carolyn. Your GPA is low for BU CAS but I would apply anyway since your SAT and EC are a match. You did not mention whether you go to a public or private prep school...that may make a difference in how they view your GPA. You may be accepted to the CGS (or even the CAS...stranger things have happened.)

I attend public school, its ranked as something like the second best public school in MA and is know to a lot of people even outside of the state. Just for reference, in my school a B is worth 3.75 in AP, 3.6 in H, and 3 in cp. An A is a 5 in AP, 4.8 in H, and 4 in CP. Also, if I applied to the CAS and wasnt good enough, would they just let me go into the CGS or would they deny me to any college?

You definitely have a good chance at CGS. Just make sure you let the adcoms know (in your "why BU" essay) that you are very interested in attending if admitted
