Chances at Cal/UCLA?

Hey guys,

I am a current senior at a highly competitive high school in California's Bay Area. I applied to both schools under a political science major. How do I stand as compared to the rest of the competition?

GPA: 10-11 UW: 3.82, 10-11 Fully weighted: 4.42, UC GPA: 4.20
SAT I: 800 Math, 800 Writing (11 essay), 640 Critical Reading (i know, i know)
SAT II: Math Level II 800, U.S. History 780, Biology (M) 780
AP's: AP Calculus BC and AB Subscore (5), U.S. History (5), Biology (5)
Rank: School ranks with unweighted GPA, so I'm roughly around 20%. But according to UC's Eligibility of Local Context, I rank in my school's top 9% according to past records. (school does not offers AP classes freshman year and honors/AP classes are most accessible junior and senior years)

Essays:
For my UC1, I write about my internship with the Councilmember, involvement in Vision New America, and the discovery of my ardent passion for politics and government. This essay has only received overwhelmingly positive feedback; I think it's great.

For my UC2, I write about how freestyle rapping and performing rap has built confidence and cogency in my personality. It's quite risky because half of it is in verse. Overall, people have either fallen in love with this essay or were are skeptical because of its high risk. However, I love the way the essay contrasts my hardworking, intellectual side with my fun, audacious side.

UCLA is my dream school, and I've been stressing about my chances ever since I submitted my application. Thanks in advance for any feedback!

P.S.
any feedback on my chances at Georgetown and Brown? Those are my two top schools on the East coast.

I think you’re a strong applicant for Cal and UCLA, despite your UW GPA. I personally think both schools will accept you, but I am not educated enough to give you a good prediction about Georgetown and Brown.
RELAX! You’ve already done everything for those two schools and I think you will get into both.
Chance back? I need advice

It all depends on your essays. If they are good, both schools are matches. Your unweighed GPA is slightly lower than their average, but your SAT score should make up for it.

Bump bump bump

Cal and UCLA seem very likely for you–you’ve got strong academics and equally compelling extracurriculars. Yes, I would agree that your 2nd essay is risky because admissions officers frequently frown on the use of gimmicks like verse, but if your essays are well-written in general, then it shouldn’t be a problem.

You’ve got a good shot at Brown, but since it’s Ivy League and has a much lower acceptance rate, their decision could easily swing either way. Your strong credentials and near-perfect SAT scores will not stand out as much among many other similarly impressive students who want to get into Brown.

Would you return the favor, please? Thanks: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-los-angeles/1423600-chance-skeptic.html</a>
(Please comment on both LA and Cal, even though the thread is LA)
