So I got waitlisted at UCSB, and when I checked my unofficial financial aid letter, it did not give me any grants or scholarships, leaving total costs to 36,000 (my efc is 60,000). Even though my efc is high, my parents are unable/unwilling to cover the full cost of tuition, and I do not want to take out a large sum in loans. I did not get a work-study package, and did apply to several scholarships, but best case scenario would be getting a few thousand dollars. Is there any way to receive more money if I am taken off the waitlist?
If your EFC is $60K, don’t expect much in more aid.
You will not get any grants or scholarships. You don’t qualify for work study since your EFC exceeds the COA.
WS is a federal aid. You’d have to have “need” to qualify and you have no need.
You can only borrow 5500 for frosh year.
How much will your parents pay each year?
Did you get into any CSUs??
No, only school I got into is an even more expensive private… My parents will probably pay 15-20k
You might have to do CC to UC transfer.
Do you have high stats? If so, you could take a gap year and work and apply to schools that offer merit.
With a $60,000 a year EFC, did you really think you would, get need based aid?
Your family income is in the $200,000 a year range. Most need based aid in CA is awarded to Calgrant eligible students…incomes below $80,000 a year. Yours is roughly double or more of that amount.
If your parents will pay $15,000-$20,000, and you take a $5500 Direct Loan…you would, have $$20500-$25500 to work with.
I don’t suppose there is anywhere where you can commute?
