EFC at UC

Hello,

My EFC is about 14000..Do you guys think i'll get any money at UC? My parents only make about 70K a yr.

If you are a California resident you will probably get small grants, plus loans and work study. The cost of attendance at UC's is around $23,000 -- about $5K of that will be met through self-help aid. That leaves about $3000 need. My experience has been that the UC's come close to meeting full need, if not all the way.

Calmom,

thanks for your reply. I am a CA resident, but can you tell me what work study is? and by self-help aid you mean the money that i saved up over the years?

thanks

"self help" means loans and work-study -- a loan is self-help because you pay it back; work-study is self-help because you work to earn money.

Work-study is a federally-subsidized program that lets you get an on-campus job; the federal government pays part of the money that you get with your pay check, and you do not have to pay income taxes on the earnings.

With student loans, the federal government pays interest while you are in school, and you do not have to start paying the loans back until after you graduate.
