Chances at Chapel Hill

I go to an EXTREMELY competetive private high school in North Carolina. About 20 kids per year go to UNC Chapel Hill and another 10 go to ivies or southern ivies out of 140 kids.

My chances?

I am not sure...your SAT score is pretty low, especially your reading score. You only have a couple AP's. If you do good in your AP classes, you might have a chance, but without that, your chances are not that good.

I don't think your SAT is anything to eliminate you. Apply early and retake the SAT. Work hard on your essays. If your course load is one of the most challenging of anyone you know in your high school, you should be set. I wouldn't worry TOO much, but it isn't a guarantee.

O I'm not expecting to get in. Like I said, our school sends around 1/7 of its students to UNC. I was just seeing if it was an obtainable reach because it is such a good bargain for the great education. Thank you for speaking your mind though. It isn't at all my first choice, and I would just apply for the heck of it, and if i get in, i would strongly consider it.

i think you might have a better shot than you think, i'm an oos from a public school and my stats aren't that much higher than yours but i've been accepted for this fall. That said i think they put alot of weight on ur essays so you would want to beef those up.

Thats great! I consider writing to be one of my strengths as a student; however, I have no idea what to write about! I plan to start those this summer..........maybe........

I'd work on raising your SAT score and GPA. And write really strong essays. I think you'll be fine, though. Work hard, and good luck! : )

I agree with cat119- but the easiest thing you can do is raise your SAT and work on your essays. And make sure you apply early. Good luck!
