Chances at Chicago, Penn, UCLA, NYU, etc.

Hello, I am a college-obsessed (and I mean very obsessed) Caucasian Junior at a College Prep School, and I cannot stop thinking about colleges. I would greatly appreciate it if you could maybe compare me to yourself and others that were accepted recently, and chance me for admission next year. Can anyone offer advice on Early Decision and where to use it? And should I even bother applying to some of those hyper-schools like Harvard, Princeton, or Columbia? I plan to raise my ACT to at least a 33, but hopefully a 34 with a lot of study and practice. I also think I can produce some well-written essays and convey my individuality. Thanks a lot guys!

Anything else I’m missing as far as information I can provide? Thanks!

Try to recalculate your GPA with a standard 4.0 scale (A=4, B=3, C=2, etc). Your school probably uses a 5.0 scale.

My school actually takes your overall percentage, then assigns a 4.0 to anything above a 90%. That’s actually how my GPA will be reported to colleges, so unless they recalculate it themselves, they will see a 4.0

im not to sure about your gpa since top schools take your transcript and recalculate it. Otherwise your ECs are great. With your current sat/act scores, I would say Uchi, Penn, Brown, Northwestern are all reaches. Cornell is a low reach, and the others are matches and UCLA would depend on if ur instate or OOS. Try to get those standardized test scores up and I think you’ll have a good chance at all these schools.

chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1502527-chances-uva-oos-duke.html

Okay, thanks! I’ll talk to my college counselors more about my GPA, too.

But you said you got a few B’s also. So does it use letter grades or 100% scores?
Anyway, assuming you have a 4.0 GPA, you are match for UMich, high match for Cornell and UCLA, low reach for the rest.

It’s weird, I know, but we just re-did the entire grading scale this year, so it’s a whole new thing for everyone. Thanks for your input though! (Do you think NYU and Boston U are matches as well?)
