Your GPA looks good as does your SAT. Your ECs are confusing though. They're a mix of awards and ECs. I see you did some cool ECs but you're going to have to specify the amount of time you spent on each. Did getting your black belt take 4 years? Did the Advisory Board last four years? Make sure to show a consistency in your ECs. How many shows were you in?

Apply. You're in the running.

i think youve got a good chance, grades and sats are there... if you can get captainship from tennis or secure some other leadership position, demonstrate a passion and write a good essay id say theres a good chance

Claremont McKenna is definitely my top choice, if I get in this is where I am going. I look forward to applying and hopefully joining the CMC community.

Make sure that is VERY clear in the app. Good luck! Show your interest in the school by getting an interview, staying over a night...

Is there an advantage in applying Early Decision? I am definitely going to get an interview and hopefully attend the overnight session.

same here! i don't know if i should apply ED either.. i just went there today to drive around and look. and then i visited a friend at mudd

Ummm... I'll take a shot at answering it but I really suggest you call your local CMC admission officer and ask them. Say it's your number one choice and you wanted to know which is smarter to do. They'll talk with you about it.

For the 2006-2007 year (now very outdated) CMC reported to college board an acceptance rate of 22% for regular admission and 29.9% for ED. So it appears that they do like students who apply ED. But recently, it has become much more competitive to get in to CMC (and all colleges). So I don't know if this would hold up to the same extent. Applying ED, as you know, is a strong statement saying that you would go no matter where else you got in. With your stats (icemancometh) I would think seriously about applying ED. I think it would improve your chances. But again, find out who your local rep is and talk with them. They'll have stats and stuff like that. Sorry I couldn't be more definitive.

bottom line it - schools want to protect their yield rate. what is a yield rate you ask? of the number accepted how many will end up attending. yield rate is somethign that rankings use quite often, as well as something that students use to see how good the school is - of kids who got in, who actually wanted to go?

also, if they accept more people ed then it would stand to reason that overall admission rate would go down, as there are less spots for the increasing number of applicants in the rd round, which is also what a school wants as it does help in the rankings and what not (not to say that CMC goes out of their way to move up, but if they can while still letting in quallified kids why the hell not)

ergo, it would stand to reason that your chances of admission would increase, especially at smaller schools that are so big on demonstrated interested, if you applied ED.

the only reason to not apply ED is if you kno that the school is not your top choice or if money is an issue. Conversely, if you know the school is your top choice there is only one good reason money - even though CMC is notorius for being fabulous with aid money, you probably shouldnt take the chance that you should not apply ED. if youd go anyway, why not do it earlier, avoid all otehr applications and get into your top choice?

so if money is not an issue for you adn you kno CMC is your first choice, apply ED.

I heard somewhere that CMC prefers SAT to GPA, is this true? How highly are grades valued in the admit process?

i would recommend you, and any other CMC-hopeful, to go here
