Hey guys this is my first post, and I am freaking out right now. I am currently a student at community college in Maryland, and am looking to transfer to a couple schools, but the two I want to ask about are Carnegie Mellon and University of Illinois at Urbana Champaigne.

I am on track for engineering ( I am currently in an intro to engineering class), and am probably going to transfer as a Mechanical Engineer. My highschool GPA was completely horrific. It was a 2.0. I suffered serious clinical depression and was hospitalized multiple times throughout, but regardless I know that is not enough to make up for such a terrible GPA.

It seems as of now my first semester in college GPA will be around a 3.1. I know it's a longshot but I have interned at Stanford twice (medical lab) and my mom went to CMU so I am an Alumini. I really think if I can properly convey my true self (intelligence, what not) in my essay I can hopefully get in.

What do you guys think? I really think if I got a chance I would do great things, but I have been hindered pretty dramatically by my illnesses (which have since been taken care of).

Thanks alot guys I would really appreciate the feedback.
