this was the first time taking SAT, MAY take again, do u think i should take SAT again?
as u can see, my top schools are as listed above, Columbia, Upenn, Jhop, and NYU, maybe Cornell. and yes, i do have safeties

looking to go into medical field (be a doctor), so pre-med/bio major?
SOoooo... r u ready to plaaaay....
WHAT... ARE... MY... CHANCES?!?!?!

yea... thats the thing, i have very poor... wat u calll "soft factors", my hard factors (grades) are solid i believe, even tho im still tempted to retake it... always room for improvement rite? lol... but yea, about the ECs, i dunno wat i can do, its kinda late in the game. It has a lot to do with me bein lazy and track. I would run like 10 miles and not get home from practice till like 5:30 everyday wen at which i would proceed to nap from extreme exhaustion... luckily i dont have to study that much =/

so... who else wants to comment about my above factors??? besides EC

take Math II- you'll do about as well bc of the curve and it looks better. If I were you I'd retake the SAT- just put in some effort and you'll bring the CR score up by 40 or 50 points. As another postor said, your soft stats could improve, but its a lot easier to improve your hard stats like test scores.

to Weasel... id have to take MATH IIC, which i WAS thinking about taking, since im a frikkin math wiz... At first, i didnt kno much about SAT's and thought IIC would be too hard. Its too late to take IIC on Saturday, i would have studied a lil... im studying chem as we speak. Also, im worried about retaking, odds are ill go DOWN in math, 790 is ONE wrong and UC's only look at best sitting, so it may even out, or go down. and i kno colleges dont like wen scores go DOWN the second time.
to watever, nah, im not THAT great of a trackie, i prolly wont persue in college. i have my own hook that does set me apart... i lost some1 close on 9/11.... thats gonna be something not many can talk about... perseverence

126230, I'd have to agree that middle class white kids do get the shaft when it comes to college admissions. They're not URM so its harder to get in, plus they aren't poor enough to get meaningful financial aid while at the same time they're not rich enough to pay 40k per year.

I disagree. A white kid who goes to a NYC public school will be given a break far before the white, upper middle class kid at a NYC private. Anyway, everyone from NY and the other mid atlantic states are s*rewed! I would take the SATs again. I think it's hard to apply to any top school with a six as the first number on any part. I'd have to say Columbia isn't a possibility with scores/ECs, Penn will be hard but the other 2 are matches.

ah yes... so many are going toward the retake idea... well, its quite odd, maybe its just this College COnfidential forum, and how were all high acheivers, but, EVERYONE, and i mean EVERYONE, except this forum is saying i should not retake cuz i pretty much maxed out math, and i never did well on Crit Reading, i havent even gotten 680 on practice tests, so maybe it was a lucky fluke??? cuz if i go down like 50 points, which is plausible, since a few wrong in math would kill me that many points, and i go down in CR im screwed... ALSO, this whole summer im prolly gonna do Essays for college and laze out in pplz pools lol. So im prolly gonna do worse is my logic... Im so confused tho, a part of me knos i could do better, another part says better safe than sory.... i mean, Columbia is a reach, but its still def plausible RITE???

Your SATs are good, not great. I would take a different SAT II. Two science and a math shows little variety. You have a shot everywhere, but unfortunately, nothing stands out. I wouldn't retake unless you can go up alot. Your SATs are fine IMO. Good luck!

thanx for your support RGS, lol... i only got a 2190 tho... =p...
apparently suze doesnt think i can made columbia tho... =(
if u havent figured out, Columbia is like my dream school, would choose over ANY other, even if i made princeton or Harvard... but i dont have to worry about that :-p. I just love the city, and i live in the borough rite below it, so... its easy to get there. thats also why NYU would prolly be my second choice, but i may be tempted to pick Jhop or Cornell tho....

Don't take offense. Just read trough the archieves. A non urm from NYC needs to be really exceptional in terms of scores and ECs to get into Columbia. You'll have a way better chance at schools not getting a ton of applications from every smart kid in the mid atlantic.

heh... this is true... at least i am from NYC tho.... i dunno, i dont NEED to go to columbia, its just.. after visiting that picturesque campus, the reputation, i could have swore i felt at home there... (i went to visit wen i took the Science Honors Program test) if i make it... i think that may help me jus a lil... to say i went there during the school year to take classes in High school =D....

marg... read my first post, OF COURSE i have safeties, but they're safeties lol, the chances are pretty much like 100% in...
if u must kno, Wagner in SI cuz they have good PA program, Binghamton (best SuNY)... every1 from my school goes to bing tho lol...

yeah, they are reaches. As I say, your test scores open the door for the Ivys, but the ECs get you in the door. So concretely, you need to have strong ECs... and a lot of them. Chances are slim for Penn and NYU, but considering the prestige of your school, the other colleges should be fine.
