Chances at Cornell, Princeton, Dartmouth

Chances at Cornell, Princeton, Dartmouth

I know this is very overdone on CC, but oh well...
I just want to know my chances at Ivy Leagues, particularly Cornell, Dartmouth, and Princeton.

Here are my Stats:

New SAT I: 2190 (710 math, 710 cr, 770 wr w/ 12 on essay)
SAT II: 730 Literature, 770 U.S. Hist.
AP: Took Calc AB, U.S. Hist, English Comp. in may. I expect 5's on Hist and Eng, and 3 on Calc
GPA: 3.99
Rank: 25 of 400
National Merit Commended

President of Latin Club (11-)

Work Experience:
I have been active in community and regional theater since 5th grade, have made an estimated $2000 dollars from it.
I have also had a job providing the english voice to Japanese animation series for three years, and have made almost $8000 from that
Luckily acted in a national commercial (which ironically was only shown once at 4 am) for Cellular One, made approx. $4000

Normally I wouldn't consider myself a big contender for these schools, but this summer I am attending TASP (Telluride Association Summer Program) at Cornell University for six weeks, which apparently is the most prestigious liberal arts program for highschoolers (comparable to MIT's RSI). I think this is the one thing that gives me the boost into candidacy at Ivy Leagues.

I plan to major in philosophy and writing. In my application I will emphasize my writing accomplishments as well as Latin.

I would love to know what you guys think. It's so hard to tell where to apply now. If you have any other suggestions of schools to consider, please tell me.

First off let me commend you on not being an ivy-hunter. It annoys me when people say what are my chances at all the ivies. Obviously, they are very different schools from one another. Between C, D, and P, there are many similarities. I do know Princeton is more on the conservative side, though. That said, what do you want to major in. if not a specific major, what general area?

good sat score, sucks that cornell most likely will weight cr+m much more than w :-/

Sparticus, I'm pretty sure I want to major in Philosophy, but I also really want to study writing/playwriting in college. I am definitely a humanities person.

Yeah, I was worried the 710 combo might hurt, but i figured if i declared writing as my strong point it would make up. I might retake just to see if my critical reading goes up, but probably not because it's not worth the effort to get 20 points.

I would pick one of Cornell or Dartmouth and try ED. I think Princeton is a long reach and RD at C or D would be 50-50. Going ED would give you a very helpful advantage. For philosophy, I would choose Cornell between Dartmouth and it.

thanks corharcol. by the way, what do you think I could do to push into the Princeton area? retake SAT's, etc? Or is it just that Princeton is a reach for everyone.

Also, I am very liberal, but I decided early on I wanted to go to a place with a large conservative contingency.

All the Ivies are very iffy, and admissions is dicey. I think, to give you a better than 50% chance at Princeton, you might need 2300 or so. Even then, don't count on it, or on any particular Ivy, although I think if you applied to these three, you should get into one or more. Make sure you choose all the schools to which you apply wisely, with the idea that you would enjoy and benefit from any of them. Certainly, you won't go wrong with any of these three.

cornell is a reach for almost everyone too, but yes you get the point...princeton is always a reach.

the 2400/4.0/3 varsity sport captain is still a reach at the supertop schools

You have a very good chance at Cornell but I would say that Dartmouth and Princeton are reaches, especially the latter.
