Chances at Cornell?

Female, senior
Double legacy
At least top 10% of graduating class.

SAT Scores: 700 (writing), 720 (CR), 570 (math)
SAT II: 690 (US History), 680 (Literature)

All AP or honors classes.

Lots of community service/ extracurricular activites.

I’d say 70% chance of getting in.

If you were my definitive about your class rank, I think it’d be a bit more, but because you’re a double legacy, your scores are pretty impressive, and (I’m assuming you’ve gotten pretty much all A’s) your GPA is good, you should get in. :P

Yeah. Your SAT scores are a bit low.

in my school top 10% = big possibiliity of getting in (out of 400 students), and esp. since ur a double legacy! but ur SAT scores are a little low so depends on ur extra curriculars

ooh can u chance mee please

thanks for responding
anyone else?

Probably in, but SATs may hurt a tad.

I would say that you’ve got a 7 in 10 chance.

that’s actually kind of surprising.
does cornell favor legacys?
(i mean more than most other schools)

I predict a polite deferral

I think you will be accepted with a double legacy. Otherwise, I think it would be a reach.

gpa? ap scores? would you mind to list some of ur main ecs?

Sure. I’m taking AP Psychology, Biology, US History, and Comp Lit.
GPA is not in yet but its around a 3.8 unweighted.

I’m editor of school newspaper, have played the viola/violin for 13+ years, VP of my youth group, write for a literary magazine, take photography… the usual.

I’m also in the National Honor Society/ The Spanish National Honor Society… won various academic honors… ya know.

I would say light reach- because of legacy status, you really need to get the SAT II and SAT scored up

which school at Cornell are you considering applying to? (and depending on the school, what do you want to major in there?)

those things can make a difference in Cornell chances. They might not really care about your math score much in some of the programs.

That’s the thing…
I’d be applying for the college of arts and sciences, which is the most competitive.
So that won’t help.
But I’m looking at a major in writing/english (or at least nothing with an emphasis on math), so I’m hoping that the admissions officers will overlook that little unslightly pimple on my resume.

Your SAT scores are a bit low for the Ivies.
From the looks of it though, your GPA is strong, as well as your EC’s.
The double legacy is obviously a plus - but I’d say your 50/50 for admission.

According to the U.S. News college guide you have a 25% chance of being accepted just like the 20,000 other people who will be applying for admission. Good luck!

Yupp.
Although technically 25% is a misleading number for out-of-staters.

You probably have a little higher than 25% of a chance because you are a double legacy but it is best not to get your hopes up. You probably stand a better chance at being admitted than most people but college admissions has just become so unpredictable. I really do wish you good luck b/c I’m just as nervous about getting accepted into the colleges I applied to as you are.
