Hi can anyone help me in determining my chances at CSU Northridge? First of all is it a good school?
Though I still don’t know what I want to major in, I have some ideas like Political Science, English, or Journalism
SAT score :1000
Math: 470 Reading/Writing: 530
GPA: 3.05
Thanks!
Are you in the local in-service area? http://www.csun.edu/impaction/service-areas
All CSU’s are good schools. You will get an excellent education if you utilize the resources available to you at each campus. I suggest you visit after you apply to make sure you feel that the school would be a good fit.
CSUN is an impacted campus:
Local vs. Non-Local Admission
Local area applicants must possess a minimum eligibility index of 2900 using the SAT or 694 using the ACT.
Non-local area freshman applicants from the rest of California must meet any CSUN supplementary admission criteria based on the eligibility index. The supplementary eligibility index will be determined by the number and academic characteristics of the non-local freshman applicant pool. This supplementary eligibility index could require non-local area freshman applicants to possess a higher eligibility index than is required for local area applicants. Space permitting, non-local area applicants who achieve the supplementary eligibility index will be admitted until the freshman class is full…
How to calculate your Eligibility index (CSU GPA x800) + (SAT Math+CR) based on your stats your EI is 3440. Your EI could be competitive for most of the majors except for the impacted majors. If you are local, then CSUN should be a solid safety for you.
The list of impacted majors for Fall 2017 are listed below.
The following four (4) impacted business majors admit applicants to the pre-major program based on their eligibility index:
- Business - Accountancy
- Business - Finance: Financial Analysis
- Business - Finance: Financial Planning
- Business - Finance: Insurance
The following impacted majors and their options admit applicants directly to the major program based on their eligibility index (CSUMentor):
- Biology B.A. and B.S. (new)
- Biochemistry (new)
- Cinema and Television Arts
- Communication Studies (new)
- Health Sciences majors (new):
Health Administration
Public Health

11. Psychology
Applicants to the following impacted major are required to pass an audition:
12. Music - See Audition & Placement.
Thank you! This was very helpful.
Unless you are local, probably not - but it is worth an application. Also apply to less selective schools like SFSU, Sonoma, Channel Islands and of course, Sac State, the perfect place to poli sci.
Good luck.
I’m nervous that I’m not going to get in to CSUN
I sent everything in I needed to and I am currently in my last semester before I want to transfer
My major is sociology
GPA = 2.97
And I live in Bakersfield CA
Well technically I have a 3.01
@jennab13 I know last year that transfer students needed a 3.9 gpa or higher for admittance if they were outside the local area.
well that is a very unreasonable GPA for a CSU. I just found out that I didn’t get into CSULB so I probably wont get into CSUN either then…
@jennab13: According to the CSUN website, they have eased impaction criteria for transfers this year so a 3.9 GPA may not be required.
I got my acceptance to csun a couple days ago
Music major - education (Music is VERY INSANELY IMPACTED there)
GPA 2.6 transfer student
Local to CA but not to Los Angeles
CSULB is way harder to get into than CSUN. CSULB’s acceptance rate is about 18% and CSUN’a acceptance rate is about 46%
