Chances at CU-Boulder

Well I'm a junior this year and I'm doing worse than expected. I got a horrible gpa this semester (3.0). Another bad thing is that I got a D in AP Calc...However I plan to get around a 4.0, and get a B in Calc this semester, as well as pass the AP test.

GPA: 3.5 UW - 3.74W
PSAT: Predicted 1280 (I didn't study), but I'm hoping for a 1350. By the way I'm taking the SAT on March 10th.
RANK: Top 5-10% out of around 650 students

9th: All classes were Gate level, which is basically honors with no grade bump.

10th: All Gate classes and 1 honors - HL Pre-Calc

11th: AP Calc, AP US, AP Eng, HL Chem, HL Span 3, and Journalism

12th: AP Eng, AP Stats, AP Gov/Econ, Spanish 4, Journalism and Physics

EC's/Community Service/Awards: Tennis, CSF, Foreign Foods Club (VP), Journalism (Focus Editor), Early Academic Outreach Program, Relay 4 Life, Key Club (VP), Random Acts of Kindness Club, Conservation Club, Certificate of Scholastic Achievement, Circle B Athletic Award, Block B Academic Letter, and "Most Consistent Player" - Tennis.

Also 2 immediate family members had/have cancer during my high school years. My essay topic is about Relay 4 Life....I will have done it for 5 yrs, and the team I'm on with my high school friends should have raised over 50k dollars.

Boulder is rolling admissions so I'm applying the first day I can.

I plan to apply for Media Studies or Business.

Thanks for any help.

Any thoughts???

Will CU's 88% acceptance rate qualify it as a safety for me?

it would stil be a safttey

It's out of 1600

Any opinions???

?????? Is anyone familiar with CU??

I got accepted to CU-Boulder. I had (through Junior Year) 3.1 UW GPA, all IB Classes, 2060 SAT1, Tennis, and some other stuff. You should be fine.

yeah i agree with everyone on this thread.

sounds like you've got a good shot. Really make your essay strong and compelling and I'd say you have a great shot at getting in.

Yeah I think you've deffinately got a great shot a friend of mine got accepted with no advanced classes and significantly worse SAT's than yours...but he got denied from the Business school (got into A&S). Another friend with pretty similar stats got into the business school and a third with slightly worse got in as well. All three were out of state (New York).
