GPA: 4.76 (highest possible at my school, number 1 in class)

I've also gotten 5's on all my AP exams.

National Merit: (I don't know how far I'm going to go, but if the numbers from last year don't change, I'll at least be a semifinalist)

I'm the editor of my school newspaper, have a lot of community service, and have received many academic and drama awards. I'm also the captain of my varsity tennis team.

Lots of people say my SAT score is going to hold me back at top schools like Duke. What are my chances so far?

Oh, and I live in Georgia, if that makes any difference.

Your score will not hurt you at any school. The more important composite is your M/R which is a 1470. That is above the middle 50% at every top school. So, with those you are above average. But the rest of your stats are even better: 2370 on subject tests and valedictorian? You couldn’t get any better. You’re stats are absolutely fantastic and if you really want to go through the whole standardized testing thing next year be my guest. I really don’t think it will have any effect if you, say, increase by a couple.

You have an extremely good chance of admission to Duke (above 50% I’d say)

By the way, I too am Captain of my varsity tennis team and am editor of yearbook! I also want to apply to duke next year and I’ll tell you: you have a better shot than me and most of the other applicants.

Thanks! I’m just hoping to get past the 2300 mark.

Definitely a chance, I would say a match/high personally.

Are you looking at any other Unis?

I’m also interested in Wake Forest, UVA, Vanderbilt, and W&M. Duke is definitely my top choice though.

I may even apply to Yale “just to see.” I’m from a rural area that’s not represented at all in the Ivy League or most other top schools, so that may help me a bit.
