Chances at Duke, WashU, William and Mary, Dartmouth, Richmond, Wake Forest, Vanderbilt, Brown??

<p>Hi, everyone! Before you stop reading because of how much I wrote, I'll chance back anyone who does the same for me!
I would really appreciate your help :)</p>

<p>So I'm a senior from New Hampshire and I recently toured WUSTL after applying and fell in love with it. Now I'm freaking out about whether I'm going to get in, so I figured I would ask other people's opinions. I also applied to Brown, Stanford, Duke, William and Mary, Dartmouth, Richmond, Vanderbilt, and Wake Forest, so I would appreciate hearing some feedback on those too. I've already been accepted to the honors programs at both Villanova and BC and I was deferred from UNC Chapel Hill.</p>

<p>profile: white female
school: public, around 1700 kids
class rank: 8 out of around 420
grades: I've gotten all As except for two A-s freshman year and one sophomore year. We don't have A+s. I've taken two music classes since freshman year, so this brings my GPA down and therefore class rank. I've taken almost every honors/AP option except for one.
GPA: 3.98 out of 4 and 4.4 out of 5
testing: 2180 SAT (700 reading and 740 writing and math), 34 superscore ACT (sent both sets of ACTs, didn't send SATs), and 710 chemistry and 700 biology (only sent to Dartmouth)
senior schedule: AP French, AP Euro, AP Calc, Honors Chemistry, AP Lang, band and jazz ensemble, and taking Honors Physics online
currently undecided on a major</p>

<p>honors: Bryn Mawr Presidential Book Award, french/music/math national honor societies
also participated in a three week long academic camp for four years, and a highly esteemed five week long academic program in NH this year</p>

<p>ECs: travel soccer and school soccer, indoor/outdoor track since freshman year, part of a state champ relay team and school record
marching band and jazz since freshman year, marching band is world famous (I've marched in the Rose Bowl Parade and the Inaugural Parade, among others), I'm section leader of the saxophones
National Honor Society member since sophomore year and board member this year
Relay for Life team captain for my grade, raised over $9000
joined math team this year, went to a big meet
member of the class representatives for my grade</p>

<p>essay: first person narration of a concert I played in for jazz, I've been told it's good, supplements are very good, I believe
teacher recs: math teacher and English teacher from last year, both liked me and love teaching so I think they wrote good ones
guidance rec: Amazing; I was able to read it when I submitted it for a scholarship and he wrote awesome things about me as a student and also as a person. He mentioned that he had been doing this job for over 20 years and I'm "one of the best he's met."</p>

<p>had alumni interviews for Brown and Duke, Duke went alright but Brown was awesome, got along very well</p>

<p>In terms of Washington, I emailed my admissions officer before I visited saying I saw her give an info session in NH and I was very impressed and was visiting, then asked if it would be possible to stop by and say hi. When I was there, I talked with her for a few minutes - very casual but went well.</p>

<p>I think I have pretty good credentials but I'm just worried for the really competitive schools that I don't have a hook, and that I may just blend in. Maybe geographic distribution will help me? There are currently 18 students from NH at Washington.</p>

<p>Sorry for writing a lot, but I'd appreciate any feedback!! Thanks in advance!!!</p>

<p>Can you chance me. I am chancing you right now

<p>You have a great resume
Duke- low reach
WashU- match
William and Mary- match
Dartmouth- low reach
Richmond- match
Wake Forest-match
Vanderbilt-high match
Brown-low reach
You will get into one of the Low reaches in my opinion good luck
can you chance me (above post)</p>

<p>@MBenz23 thank you so much!! I’ll do that right now</p>

<p>Anytime</p>

<p>Quite a strong application, I must say! Here’s my input:

[ul]
[li] WUSTL: low reach (the only pitfall I see is that you have no work experience, and, according to WUSTL’s common data set, work experience is quite a plus for applicants)[/li][li] Stanford: high reach (it’s especially hard for East Coasters, especially New Englanders, to get accepted)[/li][li] Brown: reach[/li][li] Vandy: reach[/li][li] Duke: reach[/li][li] Dartmouth: low reach (they give a bit of preference to locals)[/li][li] William & Mary: low match[/li][li] Wake Forest: low match[/li][li] Richmond: low match[/li][/ul]</p>

<p>Good luck, girl! :)</p>

<p>@Thebeatlestoday thank you, I appreciate it! :)</p>

<p>Wow honestly I think your credentials are awesome and your standards are high but I believe you have a shot at every school because honestly you never know who they might and might not accept. Personally you have a great chance into getting into pretty much any school on your list. good luck :)</p>

<p>I think it’s better to be less optimistic, so I’m going to be VERY blunt.
Your GPA is fantastic. It doesn’t matter that band brings down your class rank, colleges are not going to care at all. It’s great that you’re involved in that!
Your test scores are great too. Not amazing for these schools, but they will not hold you back, I am sure of it. If I may ask: what is your highest ACT at one sitting?
Your extra curriculars, in my opinion, for these schools are lacking. And I think they might hurt you.
I’m not going to comment on “low” or “high”. What I can say is that you have a REALLY solid chance at WashU, Duke, W&M (though out of state will be tough), Richmond, and Wake Forest.
Vanderbilt you have a shot too, though less so.
The Ivies are reaches, but I certainly wouldn’t be surprised if you got in
Best of luck!</p>

<p>Duke- reach
WashU- high match or low reach
William and Mary- match
Dartmouth- reach
Richmond- match
Wake Forest-match
Vanderbilt-high match or low reach
Brown-reach
Stanford- high reach</p>

<p>I’m sure you understand this extremely well but the ivies and schools like stanford are reaches for anyone.
Your test scores are a bit weak in my opinion but your gpa is extremely solid. Best of luck! Please chance me back!</p>

<p>Brown and duke are low reaches-- same with Dartmouth. I don’t know much about vandy but I know the others are matches. your resume is awesome, I am so jealous!!! The thing with the ivys is it is very unpredictable, so it is hard to
Say anything set in stone. Good luck!</p>

<p>@jr2015br thanks so much! Yeah, after reading a lot of other people’s posts like this I realized that my ECs were kind of lacking. I got a 33 both times I took the ACTs but I went up in some categories and down in others the second time I took it so it bumped my superscore up. Unforunately, I got an 8 and a 7 on my writing…so that might work against me.</p>

<p>@lovelyj12 @justin5585 @julesjunk thank you guys!!</p>

<p>Wash u – I would say low reach. First, most people get in during EA as they are selective. However, you have impressive stats. Continue to show interest if you can. That is big with them. I would say Vandy is also a low reach. I actually think it helps you are from the northeast. Good luck to you. </p>

<p>Your ACT superscore is in the top 25% I believe. What is your intended major?</p>

<p>@momom77 thank you! Yeah, I emailed my admissions officer when I got home saying thank you for taking the time to talk with me and how much I enjoyed my visit. I’m currently undecided, so hopefully that won’t hurt my chances.</p>

<p>No, I do not think it will hurt. My d has friends waiting to hear and 3 of them don’t have the stats you do. </p>

<p>@momom77 awesome, thanks for the input! Good luck to them as well :)</p>

<p>@me6500 nooo. honestly, standardized testing is a terrible indication of worth. I think it’s a terrible thing that should be done away with, but that’s just me. Your scores are fine. They aren’t going to prohibit you from getting in anywhere. For any of these schools if you get a 33 you’re clearly academically qualified.</p>

<p>Duke- low reach
WashU- high match
William and Mary- match
Dartmouth- low reach
Richmond- match
Wake Forest-match
Vanderbilt-high match
Brown-low reach
Stanford- reach</p>
