Chances at Exeter, Groton, and St. Pauls

Thanks to everyone. You have all given me such good advice, and this will definitely help me. How many schools should I apply too? And any more you guys could think off, I would like to apply to a lot to increase my chances.

This is my top ten, actually top nine. I removed a school right by my house as it has the name of the town I live in included (it is a day school, but has a few boarding students just so you know):

Reaches:
1. Phillips Andover Academy
2. Phillips Exeter Academy
3. Deerfield

Average:
4. Loomis Chaffee
5. Taft School
6. Northfield Mount Hermon
7. Emma Willard School
8. Westover School
9. Middlesex School

Like I said, I would apply to 10 schools. Remember, you have to fill out all the applications. I would choose 2-3 reaches, 4-5 Averages, and 2-3 Safeties.

Are there any safeties with good financial aid?

Exeter gives out a very good financial aid packet, generally the schools that have the most financial aid are those who get a lot of endowment.

Can’t really say. It just depends how much they want you. They have FA, so if they need to, they will give it to you.

Ok, thanks. @OverandAndover-some of those were girls schools, haha. I am a guy, could you recommend any others.

haha oh, I’m sorry (I just copied and pasted a list I made a few days ago in my journal).

The only guys school I know is Old Avon Farms

Some other schools are:

Peddie

Choate Rosemary Hall

St. Andrews (Deleware or Sewanne if you want something in the south)

Chatham Hall

If you need anymore, just give me some criteria and I’ll sort them out for you :)

Sorry, it’s actually called Avon Old Farms

DCSheeran- Groton is academically rigorous but they like to enroll service minded students- they also need students that are “multi-taskers” ie play a sport and an instrument (for example) as they are a small school and therefore have less students to pull from. It is however an awesome school, friendly, supportive and you are NEVER forgotten or allowed to fall through the cracks. The school does not generate the same buzz as PEA or PA on this forum but I have to tell you, its students are often children of ex- PEA and PA parents- and those very self parents RAVE about the school.

When (if) you apply be sure to enclose many examples of your ECS- we sent a CD of our D’s flute playing, links to her home business website and links to her tennis coach. It all helped!!
So go check it out- we are in LOVE with it.

Well, everyone, I want to thank you. So after hearing about me, and everything, I want to know what you think my chances are. I know that no one is in the admissions office, (I think), but I would now like to know your opinion. I will also be applying to Choate and Deerfield for sure now, they look like great schools. If you could, I would like to see a percentage :). Thanks, you guys were all an awesome help, and I’ll come back to as you about interviews!

I won’t chance you, but you made a very good point about the admissions office thing. Please do not post anything revealing in your chance me’s, FA info, location, etc. Besides your personal safety, an admissions officer may be lurking these boards and recognize you. They start looking in your other posts and realize you are talking about a certain school good/bad. Not exactly the picture you want to paint for an AO. You probably already know this stuff, but super important.

So after everything, I would say I would apply to

Exeter

Choate Rosemary Hall

Northfield Mount Hermon

Loomis Chaffe

Berkshire School

My parents don’t want me to apply to more than five schools, and I have to agree, that is a lot of interviews, especially considering I don’t live in New England, so I would have to do all of these by alumni, skype, so on and so forth. What do you guys think? Give me some good feedback, any ones you think I am a for sure thing in?
