I'm a junior (obviously) at a private christian school. I have a 3.8ish GPA and have taken, for the most part, the most challenging classes my school offers. I'm on the national honors society and the academic league. I've organized a recycling program at my school. I've been interning for congressman Bob Filner for the last year. I have gone with my church on several occasions to visit orphanages, and build houses in Mexico and Jamaica. I'm heavily involved in the local san diego music scene. I'm a singer-songwriter (I play guitar, steel guitar, accordian, drums, etc.), and I've one awards for my songwriting. I've released 3 albums and have been nominated for 3 san diego music awards. I have worked together with Taylor guitars to fund music programs in elementary schools, and have performed at political rallies and a water conservation fund-raiser. I haven't taken my SATs yet (and I'm really a little concerned about how I'll do on them). Not to play the sympathy card, but both of my parents passed away my freshman year, so I have a compelling story (and I maintained my grades in the midst of that). What do you think? I know it would be a major reach, but I've also heard that Georgetown is a school that takes into account the "whole" applicant. Thanks in advance! -Derek

While I would need to see your SATs to make a definative "yes" I would say that your ECs are absolutely incredible. I think you have a brillant chance at getting in. Just goal for a 700 or higher on Verbal and Math of SAT and should be no problem.

Good Luck

For verbal that won't be a problem. I don't know about math... This might be my downfall.

I wouldn't panic about it, just practice, practice, practice and you'll do fine. Trust me, Gtown would be a good shot for you not even a reach.

Does Georgetown ever admit applicants with subpar test scores? What is the no.1 thing they are looking for in an applicant? Does anyone know what the early action admissions rate is? Thanks!
Fondest Regards, Derek

I may be wrong, but I have heard two things. The first is that Gtown admits 60% or so of Valedictorians. The second is that they focus on rank, SATs, and other numbers EA and the overall aplicant RD. Also one thing to note about GTown is that its EA Acceptance rate is about the same as its RD rate.

I think G-town really looks for well -rounded students. I actually applied EA and I was deferred, but I was later accpted RD. MY SAT score was only a 1670(530M, 560V, 580W). I took the SATII's in November and December and my scores were: 560 Lit., 590 MathI, and 610 U.S.History. Hence, test scores were not what got me into G-town. However, I performed very well in high school, my GPA was a 3.7 and I was ranked 3rd in my class. I also have really good extra-curriculars; I am a policy debater, I am very involved in community service, and I intern at a prominent corporate law firm. I think my URM status may have helped somewhat also, but I believe that you must show the adcoms that you are a hard-working and well-rounded individual. Best of Luck! HOYA SAXA!!!

jayson, what school are you in?

THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOOOO WAY TO TELL WITHOUT YOUR SAT! i would have said yes but if you get lower than a 2000 i think eveyrone here would say no chance
