Chances at getting into Penn State and Indiana University?

Hi!
I am a high school senior from florida, and am very interested in going to either Penn State University park campus or Indiana University at bloomington. What are my chances of getting in and what can i do to improve my chances?

Most of my classes that i have taken or will take in senior year will be either AP's or honor classes
Number of AP's: 10

I know my unweighted gpa is low, but is there anything that i can do to help improve my chances? I know for Penn State the essay will be very important, so do you guys have any tips for it? Also i have read that for Penn State i should turn in my application asap, is that recommendation true?

Thanks for any help!

Hi! My name is Victoria and I am going to be a Junior at Penn State University Park this fall. Penn State was the best decision of my life so I would strongly recommend coming here if you get in!

This is what I did to get into PSU main campus:

 • Do not put a second campus option on the application. The application will ask you for your top two campus choices but do not put a branch. Just fill out the first option with University Park or if it requires you to fill out both then put University Park for both options.
 • Apply for summer session. I did summer session the summer before my freshmen year at PSU and it was the best summer of my life. Everyone doesn’t want to miss out on their last summer before college but it was the best decision for me. It is 6 weeks long and you take two classes. The classes are much easier in the summer and you get them over in the morning so you have the whole entire day and night for yourself.

I had a similar GPA as you have when I applied to PSU and my SATs were an 1840 so not that far away from yours. Being out of state also helps when applying to Penn State. (I definitely might have gotten some help from being out of state).

There isn’t much you can do from an academic stand point to improve your chances but I would definitely not put a second campus option and I would definitely apply for summer session at University Park. Those would be my suggestions to you in order to have the best chance at getting in.

I wish you the best of luck and I hope you come to Penn State. Go Nittany Lions!

Thanks for commenting, I definitely will do the summer session. Would you recommend i turn in my application asap or wait to see if i can improve anything like test scores?
