Chances at Harvard and other Impractical Schools

I know I didn't apply to Harvard but I was accepted into Penn Regular Decision for Engineering, I am African-American also
3.7/4.0 4.4/4.0
1 EC activity(Christian Club)
Church Involvment
962 SSL(community service) hours
no interview either
nothing really special excep the SSL hours....
maybe this helps a bit, my application was seriously bad and I put no effort into it, I just copied my GW app and replaced GW w/ Penn... Harvard seems very reasonable for you
Harvard-- i think its a crap shoot
Stanford-- not sure,
Wharton-- pretty good
UPenn-- pretty good
Emory-- not as hard to get into as the others, i think you have the best chance at getting in here
i think AA might've helped me out, my SSL hours did too

thanks for the comparison, makes my perspective that much cleaer. Now I'm looking more for optimizing an application, what should I not even bother mentioning and what should I emphasize? What could potentially hurt me?

I'd appreciate any feedback please.

[blank] Honor Society doesn't matter that much, IMO .. since you have limited space, focus on focus areas, e.g. Model UN, Debate, AND Mock Trial.

4n68ers are Gr8!

Someone suggested John Hopkins for Criminal Science. I believe the OP was talking about speech and debate forensics, not criminal science forensics.

You have high stats for the URM pool. With good recs you have a substantial chance anywhere. I you are low income, inner city your chances are excellent.

I'm not low income, I'm middle class. But I thought colleges wouldn't see that anyway?

mj93: What do you mean by limited space, I thought I make my own resume and submit it?

oh, well, some colleges allow supplementary papers dealing with EC's.. not sure about the ones you listed. i think generally the admin officers are bothered by them .. not sure.

I'm not sending in supplementals for those EC's, maybe just for the international award.

Which brings me to another dilemma, when I won the international competition, they gave me a trophy, but it doesn't have my name, nor did it come with a certificate. My picture was in ther magazine, and on their site online, but is that enough?

GPA: 3.9-4.0 W, 3.8-3.9 UW
SAT I: 710 M, 730 CR, 800 W Total 2240
Rank: 4-5/300
Status: African American

Not a very rigourous courseload I can see, but you should be able to get into one of those colleges. Apply to UC's too you have a great shot.

Courseload: Hardest Possible

I'm taking 4 AP's this year, that's pretty much the max for anyone who isn't taking a foreign language. The other classes are precalculus, which only goes up to honors, and an elective, along with gym, etc.

10characters

Update: Can anyone reevaluate after considering these stats as well?
AP Scores
Chemistry: 4
US: 5
Psychology: 5
English: 5

SAT2
US: 770
Chem: 650 (retaking or replacing)
Math I: 730

I do not plan on taking AP English 12 so that I can take some weight off my courseload, but other than that I'm taking all AP's in my senior year.

Will the lack of AP English hurt at all? If I don't get a better score than a 650, will the chemistry SAT 2 be a detriment?
