Chances at Haverford???

So I'm a junior, but PLEASE CHANCE ME for Haverford College (not Harvard... it's in PA).
I am literally in love with this college, and could go on and on (and on and on...) about how awesome it is. I visited the college and responded by email to the admissions officer that I will set up an interview and that Haverford is my #1 choice by far. Since I love it so much, I will write a pretty phenomenal honor code essay, and I'm definitely a "fit" for the school as far as personality/interests etc. go, so chance me while keeping in mind that I am a great fit and the college will probably know that.

I have already signed up for my courseload and based on people who have similar grades as me, I can pretty positively estimate my grades for the first quarter of my senior year, so this is very accurate.

I also go to a VERY competitive public school (like I said, VERY competitive)
SAT: 2160 (CR: 750)(M:690)(W:720)
Will take SAT II's in Bio M, English Comp, Spanish----expect low-mid 700's in all three

I know I took a LOT of CP's my freshman year, but since I have a drastically upward sloping course difficulty level, and my grades have remained approx. the same after changing to almost all honors and AP's, will this still hurt my chances, if I took 4 CP my first year?

Also, how are my extracurriculars, in comparison to the average Haverfordian.

PLEASE reply, thanks!! I promise to chance you back, and I want to know desperately if I have a chance/ what that chance may be! Thanks!

please anyone??

You have a very good chance. I just got in ED this year and my grades and SAT were basically the exact same as yours (you actually scored a few points higher than me on the SAT).

Thanks so much! Thats definitely reassuring to hear. But do you think not playing a sport or having a MAJOR hook could hurt me? Did you play a sport or anything “special” that got you in? Because if you have my stats but are a world class piano player etc., then that’s what worries me lol.

227 people viewed this, and only 1 replied?? Please give me your thoughts on my chances at Haverford (please)!

I think you have a good chance!
You have a high gpa, it seems- what exactly is your gpa? lol

I can’t really say exactly- although I applied, I’m not 100% sure on the difficulty. But with my stats (which are posted on my chances thread, people chanced me as having Haverford as a high match/low reach)

of course, senior year and sat II scores are really important

lol sry gpa in second post (wouldnt let me edit first one…)

uw: ~3.68
w: ~4.3

bump bump …

I know you are frustrated that there are not more responses but I think the truth is that at a school like HC it is so hard to make a judgement based on stats and EC’s. My S is a senior so this is parent’s perspective but so many applicants have great stats and EC’s that it really depends on what the school is looking for to round out their class in a given year. Fit is very important at HC so that will be a consideration. Good luck!

Yeah, I know it’s pretty tough at such a selective LAC like Haverford to really know for sure, because it isn’t as much based on all “stats” of the applicant, as it is more so in large universities. Thanks for your input, let’s just hope that they need a Jewish journalist who does improv comedy, to “round out” their class the year I apply! That would be convenient!

Good luck on your application.

My impression is that your stats are about average-slightly above average for HC. Statistically, this will likely put you either in the accepted or weightlisted range. I think what differentiates between the 2 will be things like demonstrated leadership skills (I think there were about 40 editors of HS newspapers in my class so while this is great, it’s not particularly unique for schools like HC), the essay/interview/demonstrated interest and things that you cannot change such as demographics (ie: if you are a young woman in the north east from an upper socio-economic background vs being a guy from the southwest).

While maintaining your grades, I’d work on demonstrating your leadership skills. Also, to separate yourself from the mass of other high achieving applicants, ask yourself what it is that makes you unique or that you are passionate about and go after it. Not only is this a basic truth in life, as a side benefit, it also makes you more memorable to college admissions boards. :)

waitlisted

HOW important is the interview? I think I’m in the higher part of Haverford’s range by stats alone, but I never had time to do my interview, so I’m worried about my chances of acceptance.

Do what you can do get SAT 2’s in the 700+ range.

Thanks! I’ll try!!!

bump!!
please? :)

Just wondering what more you may be looking for in terms of advice?

There was an NPR piece this AM about the admissions process at Amherst. you may want to listen to it and you can find it online.
