Chances at Holy Cross early decision?

Hi! I visit Holy Cross this past fall and fell in love with it. I'm almost positive with my early decision choice, just not sure of my chances.

Well, I'm a white female that goes to a highly selective catholic all girls school (57 in my graduating class) in New Jersey.

My junior year schedule was:
English III H
Spanish III H
Physics CP
Anatomy
Pre Calc CP (honors wasn't offered for this class)
History II H

Since our school is small, we have 4 options junior year and have to place into APs. I took extra science instead. I'm afraid this might really hurt me.

My GPA at the end of junior year is a 3.74 (hopefully bring it up to a 3.8 first trimester senior year)

I only took ACT and my highest composite was a 28
English: 32
Math: 28
Reading: 28
Science: 26

Senior year schedule:
AP Bio
AP Stat
English IIII H
AP Psych (independent study)
Spanish IIII H
Either CP Euro or HTML Programming (haven't gotten my actual schedule yet)

I'm only in a few clubs: Math League, Protect our Planet (promotes recycling), and Prom Committee

At school I also an open house tour guide and have been on the tennis team since freshman year. This past season I was runner up in the County Tournament for 2nd Doubles.

I'm really involved out of school. As a senior, I'm the girl head leader of my parish's youth group where we do service projects, social events, performing the passion play each year, and leading the church bible camp in the summer. I've helped out with the confirmation retreats since my freshman year and selected by the priest to give a talk at each one. The priest also asked me this year to lector at masses so I do that once a month.

Since I was in fifth grade, I've been helping my old elementary school teacher tutor kids that don't have the help at home. And this summer I will be a counselor at a sleep away camp for inner city kids to give them a chance to do fun camp things.

I've been working since 12, helping my tennis instructor with camps and then helping her with lessons. I also worked at the local ice cream place (owned by my neighbors) since the age of 14 until this year. Now I work at a jewelry store, wrapping gifts, stocking, and sometimes helping customers.

Not really sure of my chances. I'm not sure if my GPA is high enough, but maybe the service will cancel it out?

Also, does ED mean you won't get any financial aid? My family can afford Holy Cross, but $56,000 while sending my brother to a catholic high school as well is intimidating to them.

Holy Cross ED: Match

With some schools, ED means you get shafted for financial aid, but I don’t know about Holy Cross in particular.

thank you (:

bumppp - i’d love to hear more opinions

I think it is also a match- your involvement in your church should help with your application. If you feel like you can improve your ACT score at all you might want to consider retaking the test in September, but I think that a 28 is high enough to get you in, especially in the ED round! A higher score might get your more financial aid though…? Not exactly sure how that works but someone else here probably does! Your GPA seems good to me as well. Best of luck in your college apps!!! :)

Are you planning on taking the ACT again? Your 28 is at the low end of Holy Cross’s middle 50%. If you look at their Common Data Set, they state that the interview is very important, and it seems to me that this could be an opportunity to sell yourself a bit. But I would study for then retake the ACT.

You sound like a perfect match for Holy Cross.

thanks for the replies!
