Chances at Ivy leagues?

Hi, I have a 34 ACT and a 1530 SAT and a 3.91UW GPA. I’m in key club, NHS, president of science olympiad, VP of chess club, and president of math club.

My senior couseload is Wind Ensemble, AP Chem, AP Physics, Multivariable Calc (Dual enrolled), AP Lit, and AP Computer Science.

I have taken 5 APs in Sophomore and Junior years. I have gotten all 4s and 5s with the exception of AP Lang with a 3.

I am planning on applying to only all the Ivy leagues.

“I am planning on applying to only all the Ivy leagues” = fake post?

You really can’t “chance” the very top schools. You have a chance, but so do many thousands of other top students, and thousands of students with better stats than you will be rejected. It’s a numbers problem.

You have a very low chance at Harvard, Yale, Princeton, and Columbia, a slightly better chance at UPenn and Dartmouth, and a better chance at Brown and Cornell. With that said, why are you applying to all of the Ivies? Just because they are “Ivies?” Do you understand that they are very different from one another, and are not the only elite schools? It is hard to imagine two elite schools less similar than Columbia and Dartmouth.

Broaden your horizons. If you like intellectual Yale, you should be looking at UChicago as well. If you prefer professional UPenn, you should be looking at Northwestern. If you like small rural Dartmouth, you should be looking at Amherst and Williams.

All of these are reaches, of course. You will need matches and safeties as well.

@NoChance17 applying to only Ivy Leagues is likely a twofold mistake: Ivies are quite different in location, culture, quality of programs and it’s not clear why you want to apply to a particular Ivy (prestige hunting?). Second, you should have one or two safety schools in case Ivies don’t work out.

You definitely need some safety and match schools, as Ivies are reaches for every single applicant.
You can’t really like every single Ivy, because they are all very different in intellectual character, location, what subjects they’re best at, etc. Identify what you like in a school and create a list from there.

Being an Asian male from a competitive state with okay academics and average ECs, your chances at any of the Ivies are probably about the same as the overall acceptance rates for each of them. Find ways to branch out and do a deep dive into something between now and the time you apply, Make yourself interesting. Use your summer wisely. Good luck!

I am also an Asian male too with exactly same stats as yours (3.91 UW, 1530 SAT) and 11 APs with great ECs, leadership, essays, etc. yet was rejected ED at Cornell, the easiest Ivy to get into. I was even aiming for other Ivies (Harvard, Penn) and thought I would definitely get in Cornell, so I applied ED there just to be done with the process. I was wrong. I ended up getting accepted ED II to Tufts and am more than happy to go there. You just don’t know what could happen, man. I’ve seen plenty of people with less impressive profiles than mine accepted and plenty of people with more impressive profiles than mine rejected. Just be yourself and do what you like. You’ll have the best shot that way. Also you don’t need to go an Ivy. Schools like Tufts, WashU, Emory, Vandy, NYU, USC and Rice will give you the same quality education. Just find your fit!

Thanks for the advice everyone! I’m not exactly positive what I want to major in and I know that no matter what I end up doing, an I know that any ivy league will offer a level of prestige that will allow me to succeed.

I thought that if I applied to all the ivy leagues I would get into at least one, but I guess I should apply to more schools just in case. Would Umich (in state) and UVA be good safeties?

uva is hard oos, I wouldn’t consider it a safety

UMichigan, maybe because it’s in-state. But definitely not UVA.

This year, UVA OOS acceptance rate was 22.3%. I totally won’t say that’s a safety with your stat.

Apply to at least 2 matches and one safety, and your fine.

I’m curious if this post is a troll or not on the stereotypes of Asian males in the college process. “I’m in key club, NHS, president of science olympiad, VP of chess club, and president of math club.” and “I’m only applying to ivies” string out a bit of trolling.

If not, then I’m sorry for the assumption; definitely apply to matches. It can’t hurt, but it can save you in the end.
