Chances at Johns Hopkins EARLY DECISION!

Hey,

I am planning on applying to Cornell, UPenn, Duke, Dartmouth, or JHU with the Early Decision plan this fall and I wanted to know to which college I would have the best chance of getting into.

First and foremost, I am planning on doing pre-medicine and I am asian Indian from New Jersey.

Stats:
SAT I- 1480/ Math IC - 760, Math IIC - 800, Bio- 790, Physics- 790, Latin- 750, Writing- 640/

8 APs: Biology, AB Calc, BC Calc, Latin: Vergil, Chemistry, Physics B, English Language, Statistics
-Mostly 5's and 4's

I have a great list of extra-curriculars which I have not compiled yet but will do so. But I have had many leadership obligations and awards with a well-rounded base.

Grades:
Freshman year, I had attended a prep school in which I received a 98.5 average with the highest GPA of a 4.2/4.2 with the most difficult courses and perhaps ranked in the top three students academically.

(Sophmore-Senior)
I attend an elite boarding school, Deerfield Academy, where about 33% of the seniors attend the Ivy Leagues. At this difficult place, I, personally, have an 88 average. The school, however, does not rank. The kids who get accepted to Harvard, Princeton, or Yale get around a 90-93 average. Thus, this school is very competetive and a feeder to the top universities. I am on target for perhaps the lower end of the Ivies and other great institutions.

Once again, I will apply ED, so I want to know which college I have the best shot at.

Thank you.

You have a shot at all of those colleges. Why not apply ED to the one you like the most? To answer your question, JHU and Cornell would be the easiest to ED at.

Which ones do you think I have a "great" shot at?

JHU's ED acceptance rate is around 50%

You would have a "great" shot at JHU or Cornell ED.

Personally, for pre-med, which do you reccomend will have easier competition and a better chance to thrive as a prospective medical student - Cornell or JHU? Also, which do you think has more grade inflation?

i think JHU if you have your heart set on a pre-med major...u have a really great shot if you do ED on JHU...they have about 35% acceptance rate for that...best of luck!

Actually the ED acceptance rate for non-BME prospective majors is over 50%.

Hey this is T_College from earlier. Unfortunately, my account was disabled for some reason. So I am wondering, do you think I have a shoe-in ED chance to JHU if I dont apply to BME?

I don't believe in the term "shoe-in" but you would have a VERY good shot at ED if your essays and recs are excellent.

hmm.. I wonder if the ED acceptance rate will drop significantly this year at JHU?.. what do you guys think> I bet it goes down to 40-45%--still generous. Remember though, a good number of these ED applicants are recruited athletes.

Bah...that would suck cause some of my HS Junior friends are thinking of ED.

I actually think the ED rate will remain stable, even though this year's yield was higher than expected (and 09ers beware, John Latting stated in a Wall Street Jounral article that the dorms will be cramped.) Because ED ensures that there will be a solid core nucleus of a class, I think it's unlikely that they'll cut back on it. Instead, I would tend to guess that the RD rate will drop slightly.

what about my chacnes? what do u think of my chances RD??

Med...

When it comes to Regular Decision you look like the average Hopkins applicant--which, don't take me wrong, is a stellar student. The Hopkins admit rate for RD is probably around 25% (anyone know this stat?) or less, so you have a descent shot.

The average acceptance rate to JHU RD is actually about 30% (this year it was around 35%).

but accounting for the acceptances ED, wouldnt only the overall acceptance rate be 35%.. leaving the RD acceptance rate lower?

Probably...but I'm not sure if the 35% had the ED acceptance factored in. :</p>

The ed acceptance rate will definitely be dropping this subsequent year. Expect more liberal use of rd admissions.

I believe ED rates will stay high. If one thing is going to drop it will be the RD acceptances, probably to <30%.
