Chances at Johns Hopkins?

Hey, I'm a junior at a competitive Jesuit high school in Philadephia and I want to major in International Relations and probably minor in a foreign language. Eventually, I'd like to work for the US govt in some area relating to foreign policy (ie. State Dept, CIA, etc). I know that my test scores are low for JHU but I've been told that these are biased bc of the large numbers of engineering/pre-med majors with great test scores. Can anyone comment on this also? Also, what can i improve even though this is my reach school. Thanks.

-3.64 GPA (My school does not weight or rank students)
- 26 ACT (35/24/23/21) Will take again
- Courses: By graduation will have- 4 yrs German, Religion, Eng, Math, 2yrs Latin, 3 yrs Science, and 5 yrs History - Will have taken AP US (5), Eng Lang, Psyc, US Govt, Euro Hist
-ECs: Memeber and Pres of school Model UN (4yrs), School Drama Society (3yrs), History Club (2yrs), 80 hrs community service
-Awards: NHS, Silver medal and honorable mention on Nat'l Latin Exams, Gold metal and honorable mention on Nat'l German Exam
-Other: Will participate in a 3 wk. study abroad program in Germany this summer, have extreme interest in US govt particularly foreign policy
-Essays will be solid and recs. will be excellent

your odds of getting into Hopkins don't look that good to me... definitely need to bring those scores up and also try the SAT, what's your estimated class rank? even if your school doesn't rank you should be able to go to your counselor and ask her to give you an estimate

even if your odds don't look good you should always apply, you never know what might happen...

I think your odds are ok.... You definately need to bring up the 26 ACT.... Your GPA is low, but you took a lot of advanced classes that were not weighted. I think that American University in Washington DC would be a better match for you- it has an awesome international relations program and is in the best possible location for that major! My sister recently graduated from AU (but I'm really not biased... its the school that popped into my head when I saw the major mentioned). AU is good with merit aid and loves tests... your medals in German etc. would probably help!

I think you have a chance, but it might be pretty slim cause of the low ACT and GPA. You should try to get a couple more leadership roles in your EC also

ECs are overrated unless (1) You already have a solid GPA/SAT, or (2) Your ECs are extraordinary. In my opinion, you don't need to add another EC or two to your app - you need to dedicate some effort to increasing your stats. It's worth it to bring your ACT up (or try taking the SAT and see how that works for you).

Odds are very low (below 25%). Your test scores fall in the bottom 10% of all applicants, and your GPA is below average. That and they only accept 3.5/10 applicants to begin with.

I don't think it's realistic for you unless you get your ACT into the 30's to make up for your GPA or score an SAT in the 2000s. Was your 35 in Reading? If so, you will probably do a lot better on the SAT, which is a lot more literary focused than the ACT.

its 2.5/10 this year

for comparison, I was waitlisted and rejected this year:

3.8 GPA top 10%
35 ACT
Editor in chief

Your GPA and ACT are low (consider taking the SAT also). Your ECs are commendable, but for JHU, they're nothing extraordinary. Unfortunately, your chances are probably not that good, even with excellent essays and recs. It doesn't hurt to try though, as admissions can be random at times.
