I have applied to LSU for the coming summer semester. I understand that it is not an Ivy school, but it is much harder for international students to get accepted to state schools. BTW my mother attended LSU.

I am an international student from a European country(in scandinavia). I am born in the US and am half latina.

My GPA is approx 3.1 (they follow the ECTS scale, which makes it veeeery difficult to
get an A, as only 5% get an A). My TOEFL score was 115 (out of possible 120). I wrote a short personal statement and attached my resume.

I have worked as an English teacher in a south amercan country for underpriveleged children, volunteered at a homeless shelter, and had a part-time job throughout my high school and first year of college (transferring in as a sophmore).

EC:
Volunteering as mentioned
Part-time job
Active member of the school's swimteam
Debate club
Student council (Event coordinator)

I have applied to other school and go to a very well respected business school(worldwide) but I am interested in majoring in advertising/pr and with the new grading system my GPA plummeted. I used to have a 3.7, but as mentioned it’s only 3.1 now.

***? I go to a private school… Nowhere in my op do i say public. And for high school I attended a private christian school. Maybe read through the OP next time? I have already done a year of college. As for my high school gpa it was a 3.7. Anyways thanks for the reply. Anyone else? My gpa for college is 3.1

Oh and it is quite unfortunate that you are so presumptuous when it comes to foreign school systems. I will not assume that you have just attended school within the US but I can speak from my own experience (have gone to school in the us, france, south Africa and the current country I live in) and I can promise you that the easiest country to get an A is the states, South Africa on the other hand is harder. I have attended private schools in all four countries, and must say it’s amusing to see that a future surgeon can make assumptions about the quality and rigor of a foreign school system without knowing which country we’re even talking about. Anyways, I apologize for the rant. I just hate assumptions , especially when they’re wrong! ;)
