Chances at MIT

I am curious about my chances of getting into MIT.
I am a junior in Wisconsin and am strong in math.

Current Schedule and 1st Semester Grades-
Calculus And Analytical Geometry III (at local college)- A
AP American Studies- History-A CA-A
German IV- A
AP Physics- A
Honors Band- A
Personal Financial Management- A (required course)
Currently Taking Differential Equations at the local college

I have a UWGPA of 3.9 and an ACT of 35 (36 Math, 36 English, 36 Science, 30 Reading)

I have won the MAA at my school the last two years and advanced in the AMC 12 last year.

I have taken 4 AP Classes and many Honor classes as well as my two college classes. My schedule is as difficult as my school allows.

My EC's-
Weekly Boys and Girls Club volunteer
NHS
Golf Team at HS
Band
Math Club
probably more but I can't think of them

I am thinking about doing the National Youth Leadership Forum for Medicine. I was wondering if that would help.

I am interested in biomedical engineering, planning on going to med school.

Thanks for looking. I appreciate comments because I am not sure how I measure up.

which school in WI do you go to? (i go to nicolet)
Not to be harsh, but seems to be a ok / average candidate to me.
Wow, many things in common w/ me. I won MAA (perfect!) last year in my school, got a point less than u in English ACT (so i have a 34 composite) and am in band, and math stuff. I guess I can tell u how my application went (got deferred EA).
Definitely expand on more stuff this year and this summer. Do you have any interest in research / science fair?

i really want to do research/science competitions how could i do that?
i go to appleton north...what advice would u give me?
thanks

nicolet is heavy on science fair b/c of our teachers, and it's great for researching. I'd say talk to a science teacher that u like, and ask about science fair, etc. I'm sure they'll be supportive of you. As for topic, try focusing on what u like. For examples, go on intel's science fair site and see various topics ppl did to do well. You can get a mentor and work with him/her, etc. The fair for this year is very closeby now, so I think you'll have to aim for next years, or later this year's Junior Science Symposium.

The great math scores are a good start. Now you need to build on that so you stand out somehow. I second the hands-on science research/science fair idea. When my son interviewed for MIT he was pretty sure the question that did him in was "have you ever taken anything apart?" While he is brilliant in many ways, he is not that kind of hands-on engineer that they look for, and is currently very happy at UIUC in Computer Science.

what type of research or science fairs are there?
what do other people think about my chances compared to stanford, duke, johns hopkins, penn, and cal tech?
thanks

they're all hard schools; cal tech will be VERY hard (such a small school), and the others will be similar chances as MIT.
Tho Duke & Johns Hopkins might be easier

I think Duke is down to a 20% acceptance rate, which puts it more alongside the top Ivies than alongside Hopkins, but a) these are all great schools and b) you're very well qualified and have agood shot at one of them (who knows which).
