Rejected due to very low SAT scores. Sorry, but a 2230 doesn't cut it at MIT.

hmm...what does anyone else think? btw, if it is at all relevant, I am a white, upper-middle class male

I think he was kidding.

I would have given you the nodd.

Are you kidding? Look at the average SAT scores for MIT; sure, they might cut some people a break, but those will be minorities, legacies, etc.

Yes, the OP's test scores are slightly below average, but I would not say they are "very" low as you said. The scores are in range and apparently his other stats pushed him in.

Why did the OP edit his post to remove the fact that he got accepted?

Don't worry about test scores. My friend got into Wharton with a 2040, and 600s on his SAT IIs. He is white and of the middle class. There is a reason it is called holistic review of application. Write good essays and show passion.

^The OP already said he got in, but edited his post. I'm guessing he is curious about what people think his chances "were."

precisely Perky...I wish to gather a general understanding as to how difficult people believe it is to gain admittance into the esteemed institution...and of course whether or not people naturally believe that my chances are/would have been reasonable, due to the typically harsh "chances" responses for MIT...

wow i didnt see that one coming
great job
congratulations
this is really motivating

MIT is starting to look for applicants outside of the perfect score range and more well rounded with passions besides school.

I don't know where you live. But I know a kid just got accepted this year with 2220 SAT from Midwest.

Senior at my school, who is probably the smartest student ever to attend, was rejected from MIT. He had a full college schedule by the 10th grade and he scored a 35 on the ACT. Still didn't make the cut.

Thunderbird,

Why not look at the USAFA? I'm guessing by your screenname that you are interested in the USAF. The only bad thing about being so involved with JROTC and CAP is that they aren't looked at heavily in the admissions process. All they want to know is how long you were in and how far did you go, and that's it. Fighter pilot someday? Good luck, maybe I'll see you in the skies...
