Say you have an uw gpa of about a 3.6 (assuming I end up getting a 3.57 junior year) What are my chances of getting into Northwestern's communication/journalism program if the classes I did poorly in (math, science) aren't really related to the major I have in mind? (communication/journalism)
Will getting a final grade of C in physics vastly hurt my chances of being accepted into those programs? I'm taking mostly GT/AP classes, and am planning to take 5 AP classes next year.
My SAT score is pretty good: 2230 (higher than their average). I'm planning to take two to three SAT 2's.
EC definitely good. Going to be presidents of two clubs next year, and am really involved with volunteering at the ARC. I also designed a national t-shirt for the Red Cross which will raise money to fight measles. I'm in Cancer club. Some other things as well, but those are mostly the things that I put the most time into. Hopefully essays are going to be nice :P

Thanks guys! Comments are appreciated! and good luck on your college stuff!

Hi xoNotAngelicxo. I am a senior who just got into NU. My grades turned out to be good, but my SATs were not the greatest. So if you have one thing that does not fit with your application, you need to make something stand out. Every student who applies makes a list of extra activities; so dont rely on your clubs. Although you do want to make that list of clubs, they might not even read through it. I had my sport to help me out, but i still needed to go through the admissions process like everyone else. My coach thinks that the thing that got me in was my 1 page list of all the activities i did, that applied to my major. (For ex. i am in the Radio TV and Film program, so i made my list about everything i had done that applied to that). Colleges want to see that you are interested in your major, so they are accepting someone who has a passion for what they want to do. I suggest that you make a separate list of things that you have done applying to communication/journalism.

Yeah, I'm probably going to end up having the same GPA by junior year. Don't worry though- talk about your passion for journalism or something. I'm planning to have a space on my application where I list writing awards, since I want to major in English or something. I'm on my newspaper staff, too. :D

thanks tallmochafrap and aznxsweetay
i guess we're kinda in the same boat :)
