Chances at Reed, Whitman, Hamilton, Carleton, and Tulane

Wow. You are amazing. One last question: When you say “tested out” (of those classes with a 2.5 average), do you mean they could have taken AP courses in high school, thereby satisfying the requirement? To simplify, should you be sure to take AP Chemistry and Bio before you hit college? (assuming you can pull at least a four) Thanks for correcting me (Carls, not Carletonians).

juniormints…When I say could have “tested out”, I mean they took the AP courses in high school and then took the classes again at Carleton when they didn’t necessarily need to. They took a class that where they had the AP score to potentially let the test out. They did this to get a good grade and reinforce thier preparation for the MCAT. I guess the point is that students with good preparation from high school had a definite leg up.

Yes…absolutely take AP chemistry and BIO etc before you get to College if you want to be a MD. It will be great preparation for when you take College courses over the same material. Also, taking these tough courses will increase your chances of getting into Carleton and other Selective courses. Admission officials really look at your course load to make sure it is challenging enough. They may often turn down 4.00 students if they have not taken the most challenging courses available to them.

Another thing on the social life…I noticed you said you were from the deep south. Carleton is a “wet” campus. Most students drink and there is even a bar on campus. If you have major hang-ups on alcohol, Carleton might bother you. Age is a noneissue, the dorms have parties with alcohol, and the RAs usually join the party.

Hi, I would love to hear anyone else’s thoughts on my chances at any of these colleges. Information regarding any one of them/suggestions as to other schools I should look into is welcome!

bump…???
