Chances at Rice?

I applied early decision to Rice, as it is my #1 school.

I did not take the SAT, but my highest ACT composite is a 30.
Highest English: 35
Highest Math: 26 (I'm not a Math person in the slightest, especially under timed pressure)
Highest Reading: 34
Highest Science: 27 (Not the best, I know)
Highest Writing: 7

I have taken all Honors courses -- the only courses available to me, since I am a low-income, homeschooled student. My weighted grade point average is a 5.09. I also attended an accredited online high school for my freshman year in order to validate my high grades to colleges. I have taken heavy course loads every year and have been taking Japanese for 9 years, 6 of which were using a college curriculum and taking from a native-speaking, respected University professor.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, I am a decided Asian/Japanese Studies major and am thinking very strongly about also double majoring in Business. Psychology is another interest of mine, but that one's on the back burner for now.

I am very happy with my essays and definitely feel they show who I am, my knowledge of the university, and my writing capability.

Extracurricular: Art classes, dancing, singing with Youth Praise Band, acting (signed with talent agencies), theatre (won gypsy robe for best cast member), dance captain for several shows, volunteer work for community theatre, youth group, Assistant Merchandise Coordinator for local ballet company's Nutcracker, shadowing local veterinarian to learn more about the field, and currently writing a novel.

I am white, not a first time college attendant in my family, and am from the South.

How great are my chances of admission to Rice University?

your ACT score is not very outstanding, but I have a feeling that you will get accepted. good luck.
im a junior and Rice is my #1 too :)

I also have letters of rec. from my Japanese teacher, the veterinarian I am shadowing, my history teacher, and my math teacher.

Hmmm, interesting. It is hard to gauge since you are homeschooled. Unfortunately since there is no standard to base your academic aptitude on except for your standardized test score of a 30 on the ACT. You have a tough road. With stellar essays that will reassure admissions officers of your capacity to write, and with decent ECs you have increased your chances. Rice is a highly selective school and I will be brutally honest in that they have many students to choose from who will have better stats than you under a standard that is more trustworthy. Overall, after all the negatives I have stated you still have strengths. Low reach for you.
