Caucasian Male & Noncompetitive public HS in midwest

A note on GPA and rank: Our school has an awful weighing system; I have taken the hardest classes my school has to offer, and my upward trend is incredibly high even though the weighing doesn't accurately reflect it.

Are you sure? You know that I'm not the top10% of my class, and my UW/W GPA for 9th-12th isn't exactly spectacular or rice material for that matter...

Go ahead and apply. No one can accurately predict your chances, but Rice doesn't look strictly at numbers. Do a good job on your essay; have your voice shine through, and you never know...

^^It's true that he/she probably has an above average chance, but there isn't anyone at whom I would be "amazed" if they didn't get in. Rice and other schools of its caliber have no qualms about turning down valedictorians with 2400 SAT if they don't think they add anything special to the incoming class. This is why chances threads are meaningless, outside of bragging, because as long as you are above a certain level (probably around 2000 SAT and 3.6 or so GPA), your chances are only loosely correlated with the numbers.
