Chances at some high-level colleges?

Hey all,
I plan on doing premed, then moving on to Biomedical engineering. I want to get a general idea of my chances at:
1)Stanford
2)UC Berkeley
3)UC San Diego
4)UC Irvine
5)Cal Poly San Luis Obispo
6)Cal Tech
7)Harvey Mudd
Listed in order of preference.

I am a male Pakistani Muslim, and go to a very competitive public high school in the Silicon Valley. Many students go to renown institutions such as Stanford, Cal, UCLA, Harvard, Princeton, etc...
Weighted GPA: 3.40 (Low, I know...Sophomore and Junior Years, averaged form transcript, no PE)
Unweighted GPA: 3.20 (Sophomore and Junior years, averaged from transcript, not sure if includes PE)
Class Rank: Our school doesn't do this

ACT Composite: 33
Breakdown: Eng 32 Reading 34 Math 35 Science 32 Writing Subscore 8

SAT: Verbal 650 Math 710 Writing 760
Total: 2120

SAT Subject Tests:
Biology M: 720
Literature: 730
Math Level 2: 800

AP Tests:
Biology: 3
Spanish: 3

Extracurricular: Student at an Islamic school sine grade three, and graduated in sophomore year, and now I am a part of the staff, and help the teachers teach, and will move on to teaching there when I go to college. Also, I started a non-profit religious community service organization with a friend, independent of my parents. We have only done one project though, which was to help the senior citizen neighbors of a local mosque(mostly non-Muslims) around the house for a day, and do things for them that they would find difficult on their own. I am also a member of the Muslim American Society, and will enter a leadership position when I graduate into college.

Volunteering: I volunteered for about a year weekly at a local Blood Center.

I don't know if you need anything else to be able to help me, but just let me know.

Thanks in advance

I'd recommend visiting the site Uchance.com - Home If you enter in your GPA and SAT it will give you your percentage chance of being accepted into different schools. It doesn't take into account factors such as essays and extracurricular activities but it gives you a pretty good sense. The UC schools are also almost exclusively statistical so it's extremely accurate for those. Hope this is helpful and good luck!

wow, that site just made me cry a little

Yeah it is a little depressing but I think it's pretty accurate. I wish it had more schools up..

But shouldn't we be putting in your UC GPA's, not weighted GPA's in that calculator?

Anybody else want to chance me?
And thanks guys for the links. I found another at collegedata.com

Please, can somebody chance me?
I forgot to add that I am applying Restrictive Early Action to Stanford. Does that upper or lower my chances? Because I have my heart SET on going to Stanford no matter what it takes

Hi theprince786,

I'm surprised at how little help other CCers have given you. I'll be different. First, I'll say two things: (1) Chance sites on-line aren't very accurate, because they are done by machine based on your stats -- but your stats don't tell colleges who you are; (2) Applying EA to colleges will generally NOT improve your chances of admission, because typically the EA applicant pool is generally more self-selective (the people are already set with their stats and app matierals) and college admission officers do not employ lower standards for EA applicants. If you find that you still want another semester to boost your application (including your grades), I recommend that you apply RD so that you can play on the safe side.

Now, to your eval. Your UW GPA of 3.20 is pretty low, and you have very few APs to back up your lower GPA. If you have any extenuating circumstances that occured in high school (say, your parents divorced or one of your parents died) that could adversely impact your GPA, have your counselor explain it in his/her rec and do the same in your essays.

Your ACT composite of 33 is very good, and your scores are pretty even across the board, which demonstrates well-roundedness. Your SAT scores are slightly weaker, but still pretty good at a 2120. On this test, you seemed to be a little weaker on reading comp. Your SAT subjects are just fine. Your AP test grades will not earn you credit at the top schools, but you'll have some better luck at the state schools. Your extracurriculars are pretty good -- make sure you demonstrate your passion for these activities in your essays.

Overall, you seem to be a pretty smart guy who had a little bit a bumpy ride in school.

Chances:
Stanford: Extreme reach (GPA is far below average - the lowest I've seen accepted by Stanford is a 3.6 UW)
UCB: Reach (GPA is too low)
UCSD: Slight reach (GPA will play against you)
UCI: Match
Harvey Mudd: Extreme reach (GPA is too low)

You were slightly difficult to chance, because you have a pretty unique case. You performed well on standardized tests, yet your GPA is a little atypical for your test scores.

--> I did not chance the other schools because I'm not too familiar with them.

Good luck!

Thank you so much.
I don't really know why my GPA is low... there were some family problems that may have caused it that I could write about.

But I am fairly confident I can write a killer essay.

And thanks again

EDIT: Also, I may apply East Coast. How would I fare again Yale or Duke? Maybe even NYU?

Oh, and I am also taking AP courses I forgot to mention this year, namely: AP Calculus AB, AP Psychology, and AP Chemistry(The most rigorous AP Chem course in the area/state I heard)

I think "chance" threads are...well, for psychological reasons...but if you want some more responses, you could post on the college admissions forum ( name it something catchy about California schools) or the individual college forums. Or you could just give it some more time.

collegedata.com is so unaccurate. According to them, I have equal chances of getting into Richmond as I do Yale, and a greater chance of getting into Wake than Richmond/Yale. That makes a ton of sense...

I guess, but they do base it on stats more... You can see the college's stats,
but I sorta agree.. Apparently its harder for me to get into UCSD than it is UCLA or UCB

Anyone else have opinions?

Anybody else want to chance me?

Alright, so here is the full list of colleges I now want to apply to:
Caltech
Duke
Harvey Mudd
NYU
SCU
Stanford
Yale
USC
Rice
Brown
Cornell

Ucs
Berk
LA
SD
Irvine
Davis

CSU
Cal Poly

Chances?!
PLEASE?

I think your GPA is tool low for the first few colleges. I mean, I'm in a similar situation to you, check out my topic right below this one if you'd like, and I'm not in a position to apply to so many of those schools

I've never heard of anyone with less than a 3.5 get in to a top 30 school. You're fighting an uphill battle. I'd move down to tier 2s if I were you. Unless you have a hook or explanation for low grades.

Even though you are in-state, you're on the low end for UCSD. Basically out of Berkeley and UCLA's range as well. They emphasize scores and GPA more than anything. Some counselor's say you may not even have a shot with less than a 3.4, unless your grades are deflated, and you are still within the top 10% of your class.

You should be good at all CSUs though.

Nobody can help? In that case, to the few who did help me, thank you

Anybody want to chance?
