Columbia
Harvard
Yale
Princeton
UChicago

-Hopefully, I'll do my best, I think they will be good though - I have a couple of ideas.

Can anyone judge my chances at any of those, and if I am competitive enough to apply early to Harvard Yale and Stanford?

Your scores are solid, but your GPA I don't know about

Sorry, Dark, but I'm not in any position to judge anyone's chances, since I'm still in the application process myself. Just wanted to say something about the APs, though. There isn't any limit as to how many APs you can take, as far as I know. A rather insane friend of mine with a photographic memory took 21 APs and, last time I checked, had only two 4s, the rest were 5s. Funny thing is, she could have gone anywhere - Stanford, Harvard, Princeton, you name it. However, she chose Wellesley, which is still a great university, just not with the prestigious reputation as the others. Just goes to show that no matter what stats you have, you should go to someplace you truly want to; go to a college, not a reputation. I'm not saying that you haven't checked out those places yet, and I'm in no position to give any "sage" advice or whatnot, just parroting what a lot of other people have told me, including that crazy smart chick I just mentioned. steps off soap box

From what I've seen in other Chances threads, your stats look great. Frankly, I'm a little jealous ;p. Congrats on your test scores.

I`ve visited Columbia and Stanford(Lived there for a total of 6 weeks now), pretty much know for sure I'd want to go to college at those places. My GPA is low, I know that, but my weighted is probably 3.8 right now, and after the fall term it will be maybe 3.85? Our school is horrible at weighting, literally god awful. UW I just put on there for a measuring scale, my weighted GPA will be sent off to colleges, but hopefully they'll see how stupidly my school weights things :) does my Stanford & Princeton GPA look alright? - And is it worth applying early to any of the other schools since they will see a 3.663 - whereas if I waited til fall they would see a 3.75?

Mmm, the way I see it, if you have a low GPA, but a high SAT, that just means you're going to a competitive high school, which reflects even better on you since you chose to go there.

But... that's not the case at all, I just didn't care freshmen year- My school isn't THAT competitive.. Haha, I'm just a good test taker and cared for the last 3 years.

Bump... do I have a chance at any of these colleges? :( I am really nervous and worried- any and all input appreciated.
Stanford is my #1 Choice, 3.933 UW GPA RD, 3.9 GPA UW GPA SCEA, 4.+ both times with Weighted.... Thank you very much, 50% Indian 50% White Midwestern school... Hell, UCLA and Berkeley too, very pretty please :)

Berkeley and UCLA seem like a good match

are you serious? UC schools take GPA into consideration WELL above standardized test scores, I thought.. and they only look at soph and jr year grades..

Okay, well, what about Stanford?

Berkeley and UCLA are slight reaches IMHO.

The test scores are great and as are AP scores. GPA is a problem, but you can mitigate it with essay saying how you changed and turned grades around and stuff. You should take the US History SAT II, you'll probably get an 800 on that.

Umm... a 3.9 unweighted isn't good enough for UCLA, Berkeley, Stanford, and Princeton? >_<

Going to have to agree with OP, a 3.9 unweighted GPA is frankly quite impressive. Even after Sr. Year a 3.745 UW is also bare minimum ivy calibur, correct?

These schools look at courseload--and that's where you are having the problem. You need to somehow point out that you took the hardest courseload your school offers--and that with a 3.9 UW--your W GPA therefore couldn't go much higher than it already is. Personally, I think you will get in at either Princeton or Stanford--and probably at UCLA, though not UC Berkeley--but apparently I'm in the minority here.

lol. dude, your stats are almost the same to mine. TASP, national debater (policy), debate camp 2 years, swimmer, tennis, upward trend; hell our sat scores are 10 off (i got 2290).
from my stats, people said i had a 50-50 shot at stanford. anyway, gl and taspers unite.
btw which tasp did you go to?

"Year a 3.745 UW is also bare minimum ivy calibur, correct?"

Baaaaare minimum.

But he's only 3.745 GPA UW if you count freshman year--which Princeton, Stanford, and the UCs do not count. He's 3.90 GPA UW for them.

I took ten AP Courses in my highschool career.. so, my courseload really wasn't enough? >< All my AP's started in Jr. and Sr. year: so far they are
AP Calc A
AP Calc B
AP Calc C
AP Physics A
AP Physics B
AP Gov't and Poli
AP US History
AP Biology
AP Statistics
AP English Literature

In that case, your UC GPA and your W GPA (Soph-Junior) is much higher than just 4.0.

If you took 5 of these in your junior year, then the UC GPA is around 4.23 and the Soph-Junior W GPA is about 4.30--which would make you a match at both UCLA and at UC Berkeley (maybe even safe match) and make you a good candidate for both Stanford and Princeton (though it's always tough to get into these schools).

I didn't try to calculate my UC GPA, I just assumed they did it like everyone else. I have all A's Jr. and Sr. year... sorry for not calculating UC :) so will SCEA help my case to Stanford?
