Chances at Stanford, Berkeley, UCLA, Cornell

Hey so I was wondering what my chances are really of getting into the schools above mainly schools like Cornell, ivy's and schools of that level. I also have legacy to Stanford so I'm wondering if it is worth applying there. I'm also applying to Berkeley and ucla and Harvey Mudd. What's a good safety for me and what is a realistic goal? My highschool GPA without freshman year (which was 3.4) is 4.4 from a 4.0 in freshman, 4.7 in junior and 4.6 so far senior year. I go to a school that is in the top 70 private high schools of the country, but this leads me to only be around the top 25% of my class. I am part of the varsity model United Nations team at school, a vice president of our state winning nationals attending future world problem solvers team, I am an officer in our future buisness leaders of America team that competes in fbl competitions and Wharton competitions, and I am part of 25 highschoolers around southern Cali that put on a walk for water to raise 100k and awareness of women in Africa walking for water. I play on the school lacrosse team, and I play on a very high level soccer team called academy where we play 20+ hours a week and are bred to go pro. I can easily play d2 or d3 college soccer and also at some d1 schools but I haven't been offered anything there yet. My sat is 2100 and I've taken 2 honors and 9 AP's throughout highschool, I'm fluent in Spanish and am a citizen also of Mexico. Finally, I'm an editor of the school political magazine. What types of schools should I be going for, is Stanford a realistic shot with legacy, and what about other schools like the "weaker" ivy's, Berkeley, ucla, Harvey Mudd, and what should my safety schools be I honestly have no preference placing, class size, weather, etc only that they have a decent sci/math department

if you are really good at soccer you may get a scholarship and legacy will help too. I know Stanford offers my school a lot of athletic scholarships (also a top private school in the country) so that’s possible. USC is a possibility too. the others seem possible but im not too sure. I think SLO would be a good option for you too

SLO is cal poly san Louis Obispo if you didn’t know

Eh… I wouldn’t be happy going to cal poly USC I would be ok with but I really have my heart set on Berkeley especially since they don’t count freshman year. I know Stanford and many others barely look at it as well that’s why I didn’t calculate it into my entire highschool gpa

Also I’ve got 200+ hours building houses in Mexico from about 20 different trips I’ve made over the past year don’t know if it’ll help much though. But am I really condemned to cal poly with a 4.4 at a top 70 us highscool and a 2150 on sat?

good chance but berkeley maybe a reach.
chance back?

you are condemned to cal poly but its a great school! but I don’t want to go either so no worries I understand if you have preferences I didn’t mean it in a bad way haha. I just thought of it as a safety but nevermind and I think the legacy and Mexican houses will help you a lot for Stanford but just remember not even all valedictorians are accepted, so im not trying to guarantee anything. oh and I would look at your UW GPA more because schools weigh grades differently. You have outstanding GPA’s so definitely give it a shot! Also, I didn’t know that those schools don’t look at your freshman year? maybe they don’t look at the classes you took and the grades you got in them but I think it would still factor into your GPA, I could be wrong. I’ll look into that. For Berkeley I think you have a great shot. (I know they are big on MUN so that will help you too- in fact im going there in feb for a conference!)

oh my gosh im so sorry I meant you are not condemned************

What do you want to study? Berkeley is a low reach I would say, Cornell is a reach but I guess you’re an URM so that’ll help a lot. Would you be applying as an international? If so I would put Cornell at a very high reach. I got in to Cornell with a 1420/1600 so that’s similar to you but my GPA(averaged a 5.0 over last year), course rigor(8 AP/IB senior year), and class rank is much better than yours(top 25% is pretty bad tbh). Also my EC’s, teacher reccomendations, and my essay were very impressive so you have to take that in to count.

SAT is a little weak but otherwise you are fine. Just remember these schools are a reach for anyone, especially Harvey Mudd since their admission rate for males are abysmal. Also, depending on your major, any UC other than UC Merced, Riverside, and Santa Cruz should be a great match for you that you are satisfied at. If you are set on engineering, check out some schools like Case Western and CMU. If not, the other Claremont Colleges are amazing, and you can check out schools like USC or NYU. I’d sat that the UCs can be your safeties. You might want to apply to schools like Santa Clara University as a safety as well.

Yes I want to study sciences physics, chem, or biochem and maybe a math minor. And even though I’ve only taken 9 APs throughout highschool we are offered none in freshman year and 1 in sophomore at my school so I took 8 in junior and senior year. I definetely wouldn’t say my course load is lower though because my school being a top level school in the country the normal classes are equal to AP elsewhere and the maths and sciences courses are a year up and Ap level. The colleges know this about us as well, and on every one of my ap exams that I took but 1 I got 5s. Also thanks for all the feedback so far. So with Berkeley being a low reach and Stanford or Cornell being a high reach, what are some that are in my grasp other than cal poly? Do I have a decent chance of USC or ucla?

Considering your major’s, I’d skip on Harvey Mudd. 9 AP’s is good but not amazing by the standards of which people apply, but I’m sure they will take the rigor of your school into account. I’d say that UCLA and USC shouldn’t be considered safeties but definitely target schools.
