This is where I falter. I'm a bit of an introvert so this area needs work:

2 Years Band, 2 Years Lacrosse, Model UN Treasurer, FOCUS 20 hours community service(so far), on and off programming, fluent japanese, plan on joining a lot of clubs at uni

Hooks(?): Started basic programming around eleven years of age, always have been interested in technology

Ethnicity: Half japanese, half caucasian

Why won’t anyone give their opinion :(

From your record, the best elements are your grades and test scores. An interest in technology doesn’t translate into direct success at GT.

I feel pretty confident that you’ll get into GT if you spend some time on the application. Slight chance of making semifinalist with that activity record. Many applicants will have been more involved, with great accomplishments, so PS will be tough. Only 1/4 of the applicants with your test scores made semifinalist, and your record doesn’t scream “I’m top quartile!” You’ll need to work on your essay and spend a lot of time describing what you contributed and accomplished in the activities you were in.

Thanks for the feedback. You sound like you know what a lot of applicants have under their belt. Do you have any examples of achievements or awards that are considered impressive. Also, do you have any suggestions for what kind of things I should try to get into to make my chances better.

What did you do in your roles? How were the organizations different because of your involvement?

Other way to consider it: what percent of applicants to GT began programming at a young age and have an interest in technology? It’s a lot, I’m sure. You have about four months before the app is due. What few orgs do you care the most about that you’re willing to focus on those 2-3 and really make something cool happen during that time? If your list is long (5-6) then, you are spread too thin. If you can’t think of what would be cool within that org, it might be time for some reflection on that club, or on which club you should join instead! ;-)
