Chances at the following schools (Asian, PA resident, First gen., Junior in HS)

Statistics - Asian male (specifically, Korean)
PA resident
Attends a public school
First generation college student (parents immigrants from Korea)
Uncle/aunt of immediate family went to Penn; uncle also went to Univ. of Chicago (works for Johnson and Johnson as advertising medicine)

ACT: Taken (waiting for score; hoping at least 28)
HS cumulative GPA: 3.5 (Freshman was terrible; upwards trend since then)
-Sophomore: 4.0, 4.0, 4.0, 3.9; Honors English
-Junior (this year): 3.81, 3.86; AP Euro, AP English, Honors Spanish, Honors Chemistry
-Senior: To be determined the next year...

School Activities –
1. Tennis (on high school team since 9th grade; captain of JV squad in 10h; I think I'll make varsity this year)
2. Key Club (one of the officers)
3. Student Council
4. Tech Crew
5. Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA)
6. Played ice hockey on HS team (2 years)

Volunteer Work –
1. Hospital Teen Volunteer (my passion lies here; I currently have ~225 hours and 450 hours is to be eligible for the scholarship that I believe is around $2,000)

Special Nominations and Programs -
1. Won two consecutive "Most Improved Awards" on my HS ice hockey team
2. Tennis award in sophomore year for “Most outstanding doubles player”

Additional Notes:
-Freshmen year wasn't so great... low GPA because of "slacking off"

-Interested in a business field, biology; not sure about chemistry anymore (for pharmacy)
-Diagnosed with ADD (attention deficit disorder)
-May take duel enrollment classes next year as senior (which are after school and meet once a week; options are mandarin chinese or philosophy for me-- these gives college credits in state of PA and HS credit)
-Interested in something like what my uncle does, which is working as an advertiser for Johnson and Johnson, Inc. or business oriented; maybe Pharmacy
-Hard-working parents and are somewhat middle class citizens; although all is made from hard work towards income and not by endowment, etc (nice school, nice neighborhood, etc)

Concluding statement: I’ve been improving in my GPA since freshman year. Although I haven’t done very well that year, I can write about it in college essay or in an interview. I want to share my main reason to why I want to go to not just any college, but to one that is well-known and can be proud to go there. What I mean by this is that you have an identity at the school and won't be ashamed of attending there. I know everybody wants to go to a school that is highly ranked, but I'm talking through my standpoint. Many members of my family (cousins) went to top-notch schools (UPenn, Univ. of Chicago, Tufts, Penn state main, Drexel, etc) and I want to some what be a part of that legacy. Also, I want to work hard because my family has been working hard all their lives and for me, my sister (senior in HS), and younger brother. Not only do I went to make them proud that their son will be attending an excellent college.

P.S. - One of my friends told me two days ago that his Sunday school teacher (who graduated from Villanova University in 2008) told him that you can get into Villanova with something close to a 3.4 GPA and Asian (Koreans specifically). I'm not relying on this, but just putting it out there if anybody else can agree or disagree. Thanks.

Colleges that I am interested in:
Well, I'll list my top three college choices first.
1. Boston College
2. Boston University
3. Villanova University

The following schools are not in a specific order (sorry for the length and the fact that there are so many colleges on this list; I plan to sum it down drastically)
-Penn State University Park (only listing because it’s my state school, so why not?)
-Univ. of Chicago
-UPenn (not sure of my chances here; if I manage to dedicate myself to SAT/ACT and manage to score high, then I’ll consider applying)
-George Mason Univ. (close to DC for intern, but heard it is like a community school)
-James Madison Univ.
-UC Berkeley
-US Los Angeles/San Diego
-Case Western Reserve University
-Clemson Univ.
-Univ. of Connecticut
-University of Delaware
-Delaware State Univ.
-Drexel Univ.

-Rutgers New Brunswick
-Univ. of Scranton
-Syracuse Univ.
-Temple Univ. (If I can get scholarship money, etc.)
-Univ. of Virginia

Thanks in all the ways possible for any feedback. I prefer to be "criticized" with feedback that points out the flaws, etc. so that I can use as fuel to engage in that aspect of my "resume." I enjoy reading constructive criticism and actually promote it.

Thanks for the chance. Assuming you get a 29 on the ACT, and a 2050 on the SAT (about equivalent) and good SAT2s:

My friend, you need to cut this list big time lol. I have lots of schools on my list, but nowhere near the amount you have. At least you are considering all of your options.

these r a lot of colleges. first of all, u should look at these colleges and see if they have the things u want to learn over there. dont apply to all these colleges. it really is a waste of money to apply to colleges that ull get in for sure and not go...

@socalsoccerdude: I have clarified on my position of the amount of colleges that I have that I'm interested in. I'm still in the process of dictating which colleges to remove from my list and go from there. Besides, who said I was applying to these schools? They're only schools that I have an interest in out of the thousands of schools out in the world. Other then that, can you actually chance me? ;]

Well, ADD kinda-sorta gives you a hook, and explains some grades, which helps. Since your a junior, I would try to get SAT/ACT tutoring, which could help you get higher scores, which definately help.

-Boston College: Assuming you do well in high school, you should be good for all these top 3
-Boston University: See Above
-Villanova University: See Above
-Penn State University Park: Should be fine, but you don't seem interested in it, which is what really matters
-Univ. of Chicago: reach, even with good essays, its a hard school to get into
-UPenn (not sure of my chances here; if I manage to dedicate myself to SAT/ACT and manage to score high, then I’ll consider applying): Reach, but I would try, just don't apply to Wharton, that would be a high reach
-George Mason Univ. Don't know
-James Madison Univ. Don't know
-UC Berkeley: Really really really hard to get into OoS
-US Los Angeles/San Diego: See above, UCSD is possible though
-Case Western Reserve University: I'd say match
-Clemson Univ. Don't know
-Univ. of Connecticut: Low match
-University of Delaware: Low match
-Delaware State Univ.: Low match
-Drexel Univ.: match
-Elon Univ. Don't know
-George Washington Univ.: match
-Washington Univ.: match
-Georgia Tech.: High match
-Univ. of Georgia: low match
-Gettsburg College: don't know
-Haverford College: mid-reach
-Lehigh Univ.: match
-Univ. of Rochester: low match
-Rutgers New Brunswick don't know
-Univ. of Scranton don't know
-Syracuse Univ. don't know
-Temple Univ. (If I can get scholarship money, etc.) don't know
-Univ. of Virginia: low match

Thanks for the chace, qwertylad. When you said SAT/ACT tutoring, I did one SAT course during the summer. I'm focusing more on the ACT. Two great ACT books that I have from the library are Barron's and Princeton Review.

Keep the chances coming!

Nova has the most homogeneous student body in the country, so they'd probably want you.

Anyway, you'll get into Temple, but I'm not sure you'll get a significant scholarship

How strong are my chances at Villanova, diontechristmas?

^ I don't know about a lot of these schools except bc. Right Now, assuming you got a 28 act score, its a reach, but if you score higher than 75 percent of the kids that go there on acts or sats (check collegeboard) then I'd say your chances are good, because the standarized test scores will make up for your gpa....

I'd say you have a pretty solid shot at Nova with a 28+ ACT

You should give schools that don't count frosh year a shot :)

Boston College: Your doing sports and ice hockey helps a lot. It's hard to chance without knowing your scores or anything, but you should be able to get in here.
Boston University: If you can get into BC, you'll definitely be able to get into BU too.

-Penn State University Park: Low Match
-Univ. of Chicago: High reach
-UPenn: Reach
-UC Berkeley: Low Reach
-US Los Angeles/San Diego: Low Reach
-Case Western Reserve University: Match
-Univ. of Connecticut: High Safety/ Low Match
-George Washington Univ.: Low Match
-Washington Univ.: Low Reach
-Georgia Tech.: Match
-Univ. of Georgia: Match
-Lehigh Univ.: Match
-Univ. of Rochester: Low Match
-Univ. of Virginia: High Match

Sorry I only did the ones i knew more about.

chicago, upenn, the UCs and harvarford are pretty high reaches, but i think the rest are good matches and you should get in to most of them

No one seemed to know much about Elon
I live about 45 minutes away from Elon and many kids from my school go there after graduating, but only because it is easy. It's expensive, but the campus is FANTASTIC! It's incredibly easy to get in as long as you have about 3 aps by the time you graduate and your gpa is 3 or above

Thanks for the chances everybody.
Appreciated.

Anymore chances?

Anymore chances?

I would say most of the California state schools are high reaches for you. The rest seem reasonable
