Hi guys, I'm just a simple senior attending a fairly prestigious high school in NorCal. I've applied to about 5 UCs but I really want to go to UCSD. My stats are

Asian-American.
UC GPA: 3.4
ACT: 32
SAT IIs: Chem - 790 Math IIc - 780
Extracurri:
- Black belt in a martial art, got 2nd in national tournament in philidelphia.
- Varsity tennis soph year. (Stopped playing junior/senior year though :()
- Very weak club experience. (I find school clubs to be not very productive. I stopped attending my interact meetings on what, the 3rd meeting freshman year?)
- Volunteer at a church every sat helping people with disabilites
Courseload: Fairly rigorous, 4 APs and 3 Honors. Doubling in science this year.
Other info:
- Moved to 3 different high schools. (Housing problems)
- Grades improved over the years. (I slacked off big time fresh/soph year)
Essay: Pretty good I'd say. Nothing outstanding but not mediocre either in my opinion.
I'm not sure if I'm missing anything, so here are the schools I applied to:

UCSD
UCI
UCD
UCSB
UCR

I know that UCSD goes by point system, I've calculated and I came pretty darn close to the cutoff of previous years, maybe even above if you see it from a different angle. :P

I was told that I can appeal to UCSD afterwards if I don't get in, would my chances increase after that?

Apps are up at the UCs, so expect the cutoff to be higher this year. Frankly, the middle UCs are a reach with a 3.4. Your good scores will help, but SD will be difficult. Low income would really help.

UCSD: Slight Reach-Reach (your gpa is likely too low for UCSD)
UCI/UCSB/UCD: Match

Your ACT is very good. I would imagine good enough to make up for a slightly low GPA for UCI/UCSB/UCD. UCSD will be very difficult because of your GPA. But you never know. Your SAT II's are very good as well. Best of luck!

It is difficult to appeal to all UCs with the exception of Berkeley and LA because those are the only UCs that set aside a finite amount of admissions slots for appeals. The other UCs will admit appeals if and only if they have room. Therefore, if yield is too high for a UC then you will not get in off of appeals.

Appeals for Davis will be very difficult especially with the 2010 class' overyield and record amounts of applicants for the 2011 class.
