I am Asian....and my sister also attends the University of Florida as well.

SAT Score : 630 M 550 R.....UF doesnt count Writing
I sent in a killer essay and have so-so recommendations.

You're in. If you get deferred or something then retake your SATs. If they actually reject you totally then they're crazy 'cause your grades should get you in.

Your Math SAT is just below the 50 percentile of those admitted.
Your Verbal SAT is below the 25 percentile of those admitted.

That means less than a quarter of those who were admitted had your verbal score. However, you do have other great qualities. If you really want to secure a spot in UF, I would suggest that you retake the SAT. Great otherwise.

Ive heard about UFs supposed "auto admit" rule, which I guess almost garuntees an admit if youre in the top 5% of your class? I also heard that UF bases heavley on GPA and rank...and not so much on SAT scores and what not. I went to the Upward Bound program and thats what the officers told me. So Im guess my scores won't count as much. My essay was excellent and Im asian, even though that kind of hurts me. Also my sister attends there and my family has a low income. Does that help at all?

I haven't heard of this "auto admit" rule, so maybe it's just a rumor. The fact is still that University of Florida's SAT scores are fairly high, so they must consider them in some way. Like I said, I'd suggest 1 retake (couldn't hurt), but if you feel confident, then good luck to ya, you still have a good chance.

Im extremeley scared lol.....but I have retaken my sats....I took em 3 times. I dont do good in tests. I got a 550 in reading 3 times in a row lol.

UF definitely doesn't have auto-admit. your chances depend on if you're in-state or not. it's hard to say your chances because you don't mention extracurriculars and stuff. your SAT scores are kinda low for them, too. i don't know

I was in the highly regarded 3rd annual Upward Bound program.....and the admissions officer told me that, that would help me during the admissions process as well.

Well, I know that UF automatically admits students with the Bright Future Scholarship which about 90% of the kids at my school gets (I go to a very competitive school with a good academic backround). However, not as many ppl get it from different schools. I think you have a pretty good chance of getting in.

that's totally untrue.... you go there for free with that but you don't get automatically admitted. i know people who didn't get in that were in top 5%, bright futures, etc. it doesn't mean anything u just have to apply!

well I called them and they said the Alliance program automatically admits the top 5% of the class...So...I dont know. I was also in the Upward Bound Program...so that personally pick my application out of the stacks and get the outreach admissions officer to do it. Its pretty much geared towards blacks, but I was 1 out of the 3 asians in a 300 african american filled auditorium. Im still shaky about my decision though.

Also...I recaculated my core classes as if UF would do it...and it came out to a 4.26-4.3 recalculated GPA.

Also...I am ranked 8th out of 440 kids in my school.....so top 2%...

If your instate, you should have no problem with those kind of scores. What high school do you go to? I'm also in state, but not applying to UF.

Its not really too competitive....but my school only offers 3 academic AP classes next to foreign languages...and Ive taken and are taking all 3 of em now.
