I am new to CollegeConfidential and I am seeking help in my college applications. As of right now, I have not applied to any colleges and i'm not sure which ones I should apply to because of my low scores. I was thinking of Temple, Drexel, and Penn State (UP). Please suggest more colleges that you know for engineering. I am thinking about Electrical Engineering for my major.

Stats: Senior In Central High School Philadelphia (I think #2 in state)
Unweighted GPA 2.97
Weighted GPA 3.4
Class rank : 439 in a class of 610

SAT Scores : 560 CR, 590 M, 600 W. Total = 1750

As for EC's, I am currently in Robotics and I was and still am one of the leaders in a GoGreen club at my school. I also played for the Chess Team at my school sophomore year.

What are my chances at these schools?
Thanks!

Temple 40/60 in favor of acceptance. Here is what Temple’s Eng’g web site says. “If you have at least a solid B+ average and between 500 and 600 on each of the Critical Reading, Math and Writing sections of the SAT, we want to talk to you.” Your strong HS may overcome the GPA that they want, but of course 2.98 not that close to 3.5.

Penn State (UP) 25/75 as per web site median grades 3.5 to 3.9 (25 to 75%) and SATs 1750-1990. You are more competitive for other campuses in Penn State UP System (medians 2.98 to 3.5 and 1470 to 1720), but do not know if they have eng’g.

Drexel Eng’g (25/75) Web site says “Our average student has a 3.5 GPA on an unweighted 4.0 scale and a combined score of 1207 on the Critical Reading and Math portions on the SAT.” You are not close on GPA and a little off on SAT too. Plus, eng’g school may be a bit more competitive than others at Drexel since it is very well known in the Atlantic region.

I have one more question. Is it better for me to go to Temple then (maybe) transfer to Penn State (main campus) or Drexel OR Go to Penn State Abington in the 2+2 program that starts out at Abington and finish at University Park which is far better than Temple for engineering. I really don’t know what to do.

If I were you I would participate in the 2+2 program for Penn State and you said it yourself Penn State engineering > Temple engineering. Drexel is a reach and Penn State main are huge reaches right now.
