I was wondering what the chances would be for this, for getting into schools like Berkeley/UCLA and all.

GPA:

Sophmore yr. 1st semester: 2.8/3.33 (extremely hard course load, probably in the top 1% of hardest out of class of 600+)
Sophmore yr. 2nd semester: 3.85/4.29
Junior yr. 1st semester: 3.85/4.33
Junior yr. 2nd semester: 4.0/4.5

Overall GPA: 3.625 (a bit weak =/)/4.11

SAT Score: 2200

Extracurriculars:

Varsity member for 2 years on track team, cross country team (made it to state in cross country)

Over 100+ hours of community service in terms of food drives/book drives, etc. for an organization

One of the editors of a notable (pretty big) magazine for the organization

Honor Roll/CSF member (need a certain GPA/community service to get on there)

Also was an officer of a small club for 3 years

Was a member of DECA (business club) and in my freshman year made it to the International level

I'm also a resident of California. Do I have an okay/fairly good, etc. chance of making it into a school like Berkeley? My biggest worry is my sophmore year 1st semester, where I didn't realize what a huge courseload I was taking and suffered because of it. After that, I worked hard to step it up and maintain good grades.

The GPA is going to hurt you the most. The upward trend is good. Your ECs are good. Do you have any honors/awards? Your SAT is strong, and I assume your SAT IIs will be too.

UCs do not consider recommendations. SAT IIs are of lesser importance (they're up for elimination next year). Though good essays will definitely help.

It also depends on what college you are applying too. For instance, the college of engineering (at both schools) is significantly harder to get into than the other colleges.

That being said, you have more than a decent shot at both schools. That GPA might hurt you, though...
