EC: nothing spectacular. hospital volunteer, student government, school newspaper, looking to work this summer

teacher rec: should be pretty good..nothing fantastic, but nothing dismal either..

chances at:

Boston University
UCLA
UCSD
USC
University of the Pacific
UCR
UCI
UCB
NYU

sorry! I know I listed a lot of schools..but it'd be great if anyone knew my chances at these schools? Thank you :)

I was about to do a chance thread myself, but your stats, ECs are very similar. I'd like to see some analysis on this too. :)

Berkeley: reach
UCLA/USC: reach
UCSD: match - very slight reach
UCI: match
NYU: match - maybe slight reach
University of the Pacific: safety
UCR: safety

Your GPA is somewhat weak (not "horrible"), and your ECs don't make you stand out.

My son had a 2250 SAT (2nd try), similar SAT 2s as yours and a 4.1 UC GPA and he made it into UCB, UCLA, UCSD etc.

Take particular care in how you write your UC essays.

Good luck!

Ur pretty much in at bu

Berkeley and UCLA seem like reaches, but i think they aren't too much of a reach..if that makes sense. UPAC and UCR are easily the safeties. Matches-NYU, UCSD. I'd go e.d. at UCLA considering that the grades of those applying to berkeley will be higher ((asians)).

Boston University MATCH [lowish]
UCLA HIGH MATCH-LOW REACH
UCSD MATCH
USC HIGH MATCH
University of the Pacific SAFETY
UCR VERY LOW MATCH
UCI MATCH
UCB LOW REACH
NYU HIGH MATCH

some people are dumb as hell i swear....
UCLA's average GPA is 3.8 UW/4.3W
and their sat average is 2006
your gpa is slightly under but your SAT is a lot over, how you are a reach i'll never know.
you are a slight match/match to LA.
****es me off.

If you are in-state then I think you are a low match to slight reach to UCLA, but if not then you are probably a reach as your EC's are spectacular either. I think they also factor in class rank a lot, so that is important as well. The reason people are saying that you are a reach is because UCLA is, after all, one of if not the most selective school in the U.S. Also, many people accuse the SAT's of correlating to a parent's bank account, and thus they believe GPA should be weighed more heavily in the admission process. Personally, I think one's GPA can determine the success of a student in college more so than the SAT's.

But anyway, I wouldn't be surprised if you got into UCLA and UCB, and the rest on your list are mostly reaches to safeties. With your high test scores, I would think twice about even applying to UCR as a safety unless you want to go there. UCI and UCSD should be your safeties.

naderboy, this is because UCs care a lot more about GPA/rank than SAT/SATII/ACT scores. A little research into this would have made you not make this post. However, it is true that UCLA cares slightly more about scores (although still hardly) compared to UCB/UCSD/ect.

Thanks, saasaa, I was about to say that.

Scores usually cannot make up for a weak GPA, and a 2120 isn't anything spectacular.

If you get above 2200 on the SAT I think UCB and UCLA will matches. As of now though, your GPA isn't really horrible yet your SAT score is only slightly above average. I would say its a high match to low reach. (50% at each) So if I were you retake the SAT and score pretty high on it to counterbalance your slightly below average GPA. Also, you may get better luck with privates considering your strong SAT II scores.

UC Berkeley: Slight Reach (in state)
UCLA: Slight Reach (in state)
USC: Match-Slight Reach
UCSD: Match (in state)
NYU: Match
Boston University: Safe Match
UCI: Safe match-Safety (in state)
UC Riverside: Super Safety (in state)
University of the Pacific: Super Safety
