Chances at UIUC LAS College???

Hello all,

I am an upcoming senior and my first choice college is UIUC.
I go to a very competitive large public school.
I've had an upward trend in grades throughout high school.
Course load was kind of rigorous. I will have taken 6 AP's by the time I graduate (Latin Lit, Latin Vergil, US Hist, Calc AB, Psych, Bio) and several honors level classes.
GPA: 4.54 / 6
School doesn't rank
ACT: 31
EC's:
Part time job over summer

Went to a third world country over summer to work with a team of doctors at a hospital to teach impoverished families about hygiene, different diseases, the importance of immunization, etc. Had direct patient contact with the people there. Amounts to ~ 200 hours.

Worked 1 on 1 with an autistic child for several months. Went to his house on a daily basis and we got to know each other well.

Several state awards for Nat. Latin Exam, not much else.

I'm a resident of Illinois and am a URM that will apply for financial aid.

What are my chances at the LAS college? What can I do to improve them?

Thank you all

I don’t really like the term shoo-in but I think it is pretty safe to say that you are already plenty qualified.

thank you for the response boneh3ad, that is good to hear.

I am just really nervous that I won’t get in so I am trying to get all the opinions I can.

Well in general, the LAS college isn’t that hard to get into, and you have pretty good stats for getting into most of the colleges there, let alone LAS, so I wouldn’t worry too much. It is natural to be worried though, and you will probably be biting your nails until the day that letter arrives in the mail, but I would still put money on you being just fine.

I don’t want to be “that guy”, but that GPA converts to a 2.8 on a 4.0 scale, which is low for Illinois.

But I can still see you getting accepted.
