Chances at UM Ann Arbor, Purdue, Urbana and UC Santa Barbara

If money is not an issue at all, UMich does have better engineering programs. If cost is an consideration, choose the cheaper one. For UMich CoE from OOS/international, the CoA is $58k to $61k (higher upperclassmen tuition rate once you have >55 credits). My D loves the UMich CoE, but she is in state with scholarships.
What would be the total cost difference for 4 years?

@billcsho Thank you tons for the inputs. One more question comes to mind: Have her internships been in Michigan (esp in and around the Detroit area) or has she taken them up in the West Coast? I am assuming she may have gone for an internship by now. Apologies if i am incorrect. I am considering choosing either Mech or Electrical as a major in my sophomore year.

@umcoe16 Hi again:) I needed help with a couple of inputs. I know this is a very busy time for you so…
I am considering choosing Mech or Electrical as a major in sophomore year. How are internship offers got? Are there many companies that come to the campus for these majors or do students apply for internships directly to companies? Also, where are most internship offers for Mech and Electrical most located at? Are they from around Detroit area or the East or West Coast or from Down South? Also last but not the least, Do international students have a chance at internships?

@billcsho Just did the math you asked me to consider: the difference is at 142k at the end of 4 years for both me and my twin sister put together!

@sibibib, internship offers are obtained by going to career fair. Career fair happens twice a year: once in late September, once in late January. Sometimes, career fair is beneficial where you just hand the recruiter a resume and they chat with you about your experiences. Some will chat you a little bit about the company and then tell you to go apply online…this pisses me off sometimes.

Internship offers are all over the place. From the Detroit area to New York to Cali.

For international students, it’s quite difficult, I have to be honest. Every internship application (whether online or while chatting with a recruiter) is going to ask whether or not you may require visa sponsorship. Most companies unfortunately will not be willing to provide the visa sponsorship.

So finally SIR-ed UCLA:) #BruinBound #UCLA2020
