Chances at UM Twin Cities- Low GPA, High ACT

3.25 GPA
33 ACT
Few AP's
Upward trend in grades (3.0 frosh to 3.7 junior year)
low/middle income 25 hr/week job

There were a few economic/family issues my freshman and soph year. Any particular way I should word these on the personal statement?

Thanks

I’m no expert, but I looked on the Discover ACT website and for the average GPA they had an NA (so i’m not for sure on that one) and for ACT they had 26.2.
Their method of choosing students is traditional, which usually means the top 50% in the class.
Also, what classes you took in high school changes things, too. Under ‘required classes’ on that site it said 4 years of english, 3 of math, 3 of social studies, 2 for language, and 3 for natural sciences. However, under ‘recommended classes’ it said 4 for basically everything.
Hope this helps, even if it’s just a little bit!

bumppppppp

If you have good extracurriculars then it should be good. Sending in teacher recommendations, essays and other materials can help too. Your ACT is great and U of M is not that selective, so if you can explain clearly about the GPA you’re in!!
