Chances at Universities

I am a grade 12 Indian cbse student. New sat score 1280, Toefl 98, 9th and 10th marks: 9.6 cgpa, 11th marks 75 %, decent Ec’s (about 10-15 things). What are my chances of admission at Universities like Penn state , Purdue, Ohio state and University of Florida. Financial aid not required.

Have you taken the SAT/ACT test(s)? What are your ECs and what do you want to major in?

In general, though, international students who don’t need financial aid are welcomed at American public universities as long as they have decent marks and decent scores. It sounds like you have a good chance if you do OK on the SAT. Check the average scores for incoming freshmen listed on each school’s website; that will give you an idea where you stand, or should stand, in comparison to other students.

I have a 1280 on the NEW SAT , 700 maths, 580 English.
MAJOR: BUSINESS
Ec’s: National cyber Olympiad qualified, some community service, post in the social service league of my school, participation and prizes for Inter and intra school competitions, Writing my own blogs, top 1 % at TripAdvisor, 2 internships and some MORE. I seem to be in the middle for the sat of enrolled freshmen

I would say your chances are good. Here’s wishing you luck!

Thanks! That was satisfying. Is applying to places like Babson, Maryland and uc Irvine worth it, or it is a long shot?

Since it’s harder in general for international students to get in – not surprisingly American schools favor Americans – you should apply to as many universities as possible to ensure you have at least a couple of good options.

Is 8 a good number?

Apply before the end of November at Penn State and Ohio State. Purdue and UF are not as sure but pretty likely.
You can include Babson, Case Western, UMass, UMN Twin Cities.
Maryland makes admission to its business school competitive.

Do I stand a chance at UC Irvine? Also, what is it about business being an impacted major at the UC’s and IU Bloomington?

I have changed my mind about Babson. I won’t be applying. It requires a 100 on the Toefl, very expensive and too small for my liking. I am considering to add UC Irvine or IU Bloomington to the list.

Only apply to UCI or UMD if you’re okay NOT majoring in business since the process is selective.
Apply to IU Kelley but if you’re not direct admit, don’t accept admission as your odds of admission afterwards are very low.

Can we be directly admitted to Kelley? My counselor was like they won’t give you the business major if you don’t meet specific gpa requirements in the first 2 years.
